Malcolm Reynolds - Malcolm_Reynalds - 04-15-2009 Malcolm Reynolds ah, for the simpler days of scrap mining around Bornholm Depot http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28770 It's a funny thing, when I was scrap mining around Bornholm Depot I was always dreaming of a more exciting life. I knew there was many different systems and planets beyond the confines of the outpost I called home in Omega 15. I had traveled as far as sigma 13 and Omega 49, but it was when I was in New Berlin at Oder Shipyard that planted a seed. After I bought my mining ship, while I was waiting for all the paperwork to be finalized, I overheard some local Bounyhunter bragging in the local bar about his latest adventure. It made me think about how I wanted to go to the places that our father told us about, and actually have stories of my own to tell once I've been there. But now, I almost miss the simple life of collecting scrap. Sure most of the time it was dull, boring, and did I mention boring? I admit, while exploring debris fields, I did have some adventures. Like the day we found those two intact gunboats, or the "plasma Cutter" indecent (easy "trigger", I'm not going to tell the story), It was exciting finding things like mostly intact warships, though I think my first words when James told me he wanted to keep a gunboat was "what an ugly hunk of junk, you actually WANT to fix THAT up?". No matter how I disliked the unending cycle of collecting and selling, one thing it did offer was. . . I hardly ever got shot at. yeah Hessians and the like wanted their "protection fees", but they weren't hard core pirates with the inevitable "Pay or DIE!!" demands I've seen in the border worlds in my travels. It was a "safe" line of work, so I don't know what finally compelled me to buy my gunboat and start exploring the rest of Sirus, weather it was my wanting to add adventure to my life, or maybe a little envy toward my brothers who now had gunboats and were "seeing the galaxy" while I was "stuck" in my mining ship day after day, But when I first laid eyes on the first Zoner gunboat I saw drive by. . .my only thought was. . . "where can I get one of those?". So I've since sold my Mining ship and I bought myself one of the new Zoner gunboats that is now being sold at the depot. Now I'm exploring some of the far reaches of Sirus, and still just work for myself. I mostly escort traders, an do a little trading of my own (in what little hold I have), I've also even done a little buying and selling of used equipment like did on the side back in my Bornholm days. . .maybe I'll make that into a business. . . |
