I have begun to the task of creating a new purpose. We are Zoners but we also understand the threat that the Nomads pose to humanity at large. We will do whatever we can to safeguard humanity from the alien infestation, even if we have to use our teeth to end them. The Order do a wonderful job of safeguarding humanity, but are sometimes bogged down with dealing with bureaucratic situations. Due to our ability to remain neutral, we can avoid all of that and cut straight to our purpose: Ending the Nomad threat.

We are not a faction. We never will be. After the fall of the Zoner Defense Fleet, we have sworn to remain independent. Instead, we are a loose group of Zoners and Outworlders that understands the greater threat to the Sirius systems and will do whatever we can to aid those with similar goals. A group of people who have gathered together for a single cause. We are small a very small fleet at present with only two ships to our name. Although if one Freelancer and a group of Order could put a stop to the Nomads 29 years ago, then imagine what a Carrier and Destroyer could do on their own with their crews backing them up.

We also plan to call on all Zoners and Outworlders alike to join us in Omicron Delta. To aid us in our goal. To be the firewall between those beings that lurk in the void between stars; that would shepherd in the darkness and put an end to our species. To be the sword and the shield that ensures that they do not get their way. To ensure our very survival. Answering this call will not require any commitment on their part. There are no ranks, there are no meetings or requirements. No bureaucratic nonsense that will bog us down with hostilities or demands. No House systems enacting their oppressive laws on us preventing us from our goals. We will fight and we will win against these things that lurk out here.

...or we will die trying.

These log entries will be a place not only for myself, but those who wish to join with Elysium's Shield in time. For now, they are restricted to Kasumi and myself. I hope that we are able to open them up to more people in time. Anyway, with this coding of the new log completed, we have more sorties to run against the Nomad scum out here.

I'll have more to write then.

We had a busy day tonight and some interesting conversations with some colorful things. No I'm not referring to Nomads. We'd have blown them up before having a conversation with them. No I'm speaking of colorful in the vein of interesting.

We began our night like any other night, we stocked up, and left the Freeport in search of Nomads to hunt. A few sorties into our evening, and we came across our old Order friend, "Hi-1". Although tonight he was on another ship named "Hi-4". I'm not sure of the significance of the naming conventions. I might have to ask him later for clarification on that if I'm cleared for that knowledge. We discussed a few things during combat. The Nomad bombers weren't posing much of a threat to either of our ships, so it was easy enough to kill them without much effort. Before long, an AI vessel showed up followed by a DTR shortly thereafter.

Now, we're not openly hostile to the AI. In fact, we try to carry on some sort of conversation with them but it always ends up with them attacking. This one, however, began attacking Nomads and avoided attacking us. Once the entire Nomad threat was dealt with, the AI requested information. It appeared to be in some kind of "learning mode" or something as it kept querying different questions concerning us. Eventually, the AI left to perform a subroutine of mapping the system. We let it go as it didn't appear to be a threat. Shortly thereafter, another Order vessel appeared, this one an Osiris that appeared to not be apart of Overwatch. We discussed things with it's captain before mooring the Eventide at the station and taking our Gunboat, Mad-Hatter down to Inverness to see what the status was down there concerning the Nomad infestation in that system. As we entered the system, we noticed an old Freelancer friend, Cordosha, shooting at a Nomad fighter.

We had a brief discussion with him before getting down to business and taking care of some sorties from the Freeport here. He mentioned that he had to depart for a while and docked at the Freeport, no doubt to sleep off his combat fatigue. Learning how to fight these things can really take it out of you. I wished him well and docked as well. I've got a room for the night here. There is something about this system that is puzzling. It's very close to Liberty space which makes me uncomfortable, but it's more than that. I've got a weird feeling about this place. I might have to investigate more.

That's all for now. I'm going to get some rest. More tomorrow unless I decide to take a break...although, we can never take a break from the threat of the Nomads.

Zylar wants me to do a daily log so...here I am...doing a daily log. Ugh, here we go.

Started my day simple enough. I woke the crew for the Katakiuchi and we set to work restocking the ship with ammo, food, etc. We're considerably smaller than the Eventide so we don't have as much crew to feed or ammo to restock, so it generally takes us less time to get it underway than they do. We picked up what Zylar calls a "sortie" from Mission Control and set to work dealing with the space squids.

During our fight, we came across several squid gunboats. They thrashed our ship badly, even leading to our very expensive and rare jump drive being destroyed. Needless to say, I was pissed off beyond comprehension. We survived our encounter with the gunboats but not without extensive damage being done to the ship. We limped back to Freeport 11 for repairs and notified Zylar of our encounter. He fielded the Eventide immediately while we underwent repairs. Our first real day as a member of what we're calling "Elysium's Shield" was met with us being nearly crippled on our second mission. I'm not too happy about that but the Katakiuchi is a tough ship and she'll recover soon enough. We hope to be back out within twelve hours after repairs are completed. We may not be able to jump anymore, but we've still got our weapons.

That's all we need.

I've given the crew some time off while the Katakiuchi undergoes her repairs. In the meantime I'm taking my Osprey out. Zylar requested I head to Inverness to do some scouting. He says he has some concerns about the amount of Nomad activity in the system. Just hope I don't run into more Gunboats. Last thing I need today is to suck vacuum.

Another interesting day. Omicron Delta never disappoints.

Ran into an AI vessel during one of our sorties against Renegade ships. This AI seemed to be less voilent than it's siblings. This one instead scanned our vessel, stated the obvious about what it was for, then said we weren't a threat and continued it's purpose about searching for "defective" AI's. Seems there might be some discourse within their society (if you can call it that). Something to keep a closer eye on for certain.

As we were ending the night, we ran into a Freelancer and had a brief discussion about our purpose. Was a nice talk shortly before bed and a great way to wrap up the evening. The crew is exhausted after our work today, so I'm giving them an extra day off for all the hard work. Kasumi is going to be picking up the slack in the coming days. Her vessel got the crap kicked out of it the other day, so hopefully it'll be up to the task.

Had some very good and heartwarming news tonight. It turns out the White Rabbit's debris was gathered together by some enterprising Zoners that had come up from Omega-48 in light of the collapse of the ZDF. Due to a fluke in insurance premiums, the ship was completely covered from its destruction three weeks ago. As such, it has currently been under repairs for the past week a short distance away in Omicron Kappa. It turns out they were unable to reach me during this time but those within certain circles of the Zoners knew who the vessel belonged to and went out of their way to ensure it was taken care of. They even went so far as to speak to fly out into the Omicrons to tell me in person. It's good to know there are still those in the Zoners that respect me enough to let me know of these things.

The ship won't be space worthy for weeks, possibly even months or years. I'm hearing that the damage the vessel suffered was so catastrophic that they're rebuilding entire parts of the ship from scratch. I plan on heading down tonight to take a look and see what I can do to help with repairs if they'll allow it. It'll be good to be in the system for a while anyway as I've seen many AI vessels from the strange planet they call "Gammu" in system. Even seeing the mysterious world from a distance may give me some perspective on what's happening there. In the meantime, I'll be passing off the sorties in Delta to Kasumi with the hope that her Destroyer can handle some of the workload the Eventide has been doing. It's a much smaller ship without as many armaments as we have, but the hope is it can do some of the lighter sorties until we can get back to resume our tasks. I hope to only be down here for a few days as I'm sure the technicians will want me out of their hair before long.

I'll have to consider a new name for the White Rabbit. It's old name just doesn't seem suitable anymore considering that was the name of the ZDF flagship. I'll also have to consider a purpose for the vessel or to keep it in Mothball status. Nephilim's aren't warships after all, they're colony ships. Besides, we only have enough people to barely crew the Eventide and Katakiuchi. The required crew for a Nephilim is easily double that. We will have to consider our steps carefully. For now, the ship won't be in use until it's been rebuilt and fully tested anyways. As such, we have some time to consider what to do with the old girl. She's had a hell of a life in the past 25 years. Abandoned on the fringes of space and destroyed at the hands of the Houses. I think the Omicrons are a much better place for her.

Anyway, going to wrap up here and ensure that the Eventide is ready to get underway. Omicron Kappa may be only one jump away, but there are many dangers out here. We have to be ready for anything.

The Katakiuchi left Freeport 11 and headed out to do some missions. One of them lead us to Omicron Minor where we came upon some Order vessels conversing with an AI ship. Puzzling, I approached and listening in. Besides being oddly propositioned by an AI vessel (that was a first for me) nothing else out of the ordinary happened. We wound up escorting an Order vessel to Omicron Theta before docking at the Freeport there for the evening. We plan on returning to Omicron Delta before the day is out, but some of the crew hadn't been around Freeport 9 for a while and wanted to stop off to say hello to some people they hadn't seen in a bit.

From what I hear, Zylar had a more eventful evening. Logs attached. Kasumi out.

We have had our share of combat against Nomads but nothing like what we experienced tonight.

Our evening started shortly after Kasumi's ended. They docked at Freeport 9 in Theta right when we picked up the task of monitoring Delta and taking care of Nomads as we found them. We'd been in Kappa overnight while the technicians at the Shipyard had reviewed the damages to the Nephilim. We'd been shooed away so we had begun a route of Omicron Delta when we ran into some Order ships in system. We monitored the Jump Hole to Zeta for sometime before moving to Location Classified. Once there, we socialized with some Order representatives before our contacts pinged with a massive Nomad vessel. To be honest, we never thought that they could become that large.

We quickly spun up our Cruise engines and aided the Order in taking it down. However, shortly after we downed that one, an even larger vessel appeared. We took heavy fire but were able to take it down. The Eventide was critically damaged after the engagement. As we were maneuvering to dock, the Nomad sent us a secure message direct to our communications officer. We weren't sure how or why they sent one to us directly, but the message was vague. It might seem like they wanted to meet us somewhere privately. Something about stormlands and being a guest. We simply responded with that we would destroy them next we met. There was nothing said in return to us after we responded. A few more alien vessels appeared but were dispatched in quick order alongside the Order vessels.

We lost a few crew to the attacks. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten. Their bravery in the face of certain death against beings that far outstripped our own will forever be honored and remembered by all those who serve aboard any vessel that is apart of the Elysium's Shield.

We patrolled a bit, ensuring that no more Nomad vessels were present before we heard a report that Core vessels were entering the system. I apologized to the Order ships in the vicinity and cloaked the Eventide before shortly departing the system. We are not to attack Human vessels unless they are attacking us or are infected. We will not contribute to the division that the Nomads take so much glee in.

We've returned to Omicron Delta and have moored at Freeport 11 for the night. The Eventide took significant damage and requires a day or so in drydock to repair those damages. Hopefully with any luck we will be back out in a couple of days to continue our tasks in Omicron Delta or whatever the Order might have for us in terms of missions. Until then, we will stand by and do what we can to aid in the alien threat.

My true concern is the fact that the Nomad vessel only known as "Entity" contacted us directly. Clearly, the Nomads are noticing our consistent attempts at routing them from the Omicron Delta system and Sirius at large. If a vessel such as that has noticed us, then we are certainly in for a rough time. We will persevere though and we won't back down from a fight, no matter the odds stacked against us. We will win.

Zylar out.

I'm completely surprised. I'm floored even!

They told me the Nephilim would be in drydock for possibly months or years before it was ready to fly again. It seems they pulled in a lot of helping hands to get the ship back to operational status. Not only that, they used some kind of experimental tech from the Corinth Annex to automate several functions that the ship would ordinarily require a human being for. This allows us to use the ship with less crew and possibly even field the ship in the defense against the Nomads. Something that we sorely need. They also used that tech to aid with the reconstruction efforts, significantly speeding along the timetable for the ship being finished. I'm very surprised that the ship was completed at the speed that it was.

We've been thinking long and hard about what name the ship should be changed to. The vessel was destroyed twice and has returned from the dead both times stronger than it had been before. The name Defiance was always present in my mind, and that's what she's been renamed to. The ZSS-Defiance specifically. The ZSS standing for "Zoner Sky Ship".

At great risk, we took the ship into Omicron Delta for field tests. Propulsion, weapons, those kinds of things. After engaging Cruise, we came upon an Order agent having some difficulties against some Nomad gunboats. Seeing this as a chance to test our weapons systems, we moved to intercept the squids. Within a few moments, scanners were clear. The Order agent thanked us for our assistance and departed to repair their vessel. Seeing that all systems were nominal, we returned to Kappa to have the last of the systems reintegrated and the armor installed.

We're not giving up command of the Eventide either. The vessel will remain the primary ship for engaging Nomads within the Omicrons. The Nephilim is just too big and unwieldly to be utilized in any major skirmishes with the Nomads. It's basically a sitting duck when it comes to any engagements of things above Gunboats or Cruisers and don't want to risk the vessel for a third time. If it becomes necessary to field the ship due to hostilities, then we're already in trouble.

We will be returning the ship to Omicron Delta after the armor has been reapplied. We expect to be back at Freeport 11 within the hour.

It's amazing the things technology can do...

It would seem we've done our job too efficiently. The Freeport and Order base in Omicron Delta don't have any missions for us or any reports of Nomad activity in system. While concerning, it opens us up to travel to other systems to see if they need any assistance.

I don't think that the Order systems will need any help. They appear to always have that under control. We plan on journeying out into other star systems nearby to check if they have any sorties for us to complete. One such system we've been hearing a lot about is Inverness. While it's a little too close to Liberty for my comfort, we may be heading there. Another option is to a Kusari system that we've heard rumors about near Order space that may have some squid killing potential. We've setup the ZSS-Defiance in orbit of Freeport 11 for those apart of Elysium's Shield to dock and moor at for repairs as well as to function as a defensive platform in the system in case things suddenly turn dour. The lack of activity in the system from the aliens and their pawns has me slightly concerned...or maybe we're just doing our job very well and are finally making a dent in the infestation. Either way, we're keeping a discerning eye on Nomad activity in the system.

Oh, and we forgot to upload of a log of an interesting discussion we had with an Outcast vessel passing through Omicron Delta during our combat tests with the ZSS-Defiance. We've attached it to this log. The Outcast had some experience dealing with Entity in the past. While they stated it hadn't contacted them as it did the Eventide during our combat in Location Classified, they said it did act different than most Nomads. Odd. We'll have to keep a close eye out for this strange alien variation...I wish we had a better idea what they were planning...

The silence is deafening.

Well, it wasn't really a surprise. We broke the Defiance on only the second day out of drydock. Should've expected it considering it was broken into three pieces and put back together at break neck speed. Luckily we had no fatalities from the event. Several of the crew was hospitalized at Freeport 11 with serious injuries, but we didn't lose anyone thankfully.

We were on a normal patrol in Omicron Delta and we'd taken a sortie from the Order base in system. Everything was going well until a couple of Nomad battleships appeared out of no where. We were able to fight them both off but not before red lines began showing through the ships superstructure. Within moments, the ships center of mass began bucking from the stress. We were able to limp the ship back to the Freeport as some technicians came up from Omicron Kappa to investigate the damages. Turns out the ship wasn't ready for the amount of stress we were putting her through. I got my fucking ear about talked off by the lead technician. She was pissed off that I'd managed to damage the ship as extensively as I had in the short period of time it had been utilized. The technicians shooed the crew off of the ship and began repairs. We later found out they'd managed to repair it enough to tow it back to Omicron Kappa and to the shipyards.

Kasumi and I had a brief meeting concerning the damages. During our conversation, we had an idea to use some of the tech we've discovered during our sorties with the aliens here. We gathered some of the research our scientists have been doing and brought them to the shipyards in Kappa for them to review. After a painstaking few hours, they came back and said that some of the tech we located might be adaptable on the Defiance including some of the AI tech we've recovered from the Cruisers and Drones. We've researched some of the Renegade and Nomad components under controlled conditions too, but feel that the risk of corruption or other hazards far too high to use that research. We plan on passing that information up to the Order for their review. They know more about this stuff than we do and the risks involved. However, we don't see a reason as to why the AI components can't be integrated immediately. The engines alone would consume far less H-Fuel and may even propel the ship faster than we originally believed possible.

We're staying here at Kappa for the evening while they review things. No telling how long this will take. I plan on returning with Kasumi on the Katakiuchi to Delta and Freeport 11 in the morning. The alien menace waits for no one...much less a human with a habit of breaking battleships.

Zylar out.
