Victor Steiner - Alice Dee - Overseer - 08-28-2022

Esteemed Director Steiner,

It would have been my personal preference to meet you under different circumstances. Basically anything apart from stumbling upon each other in the middle of what seems to me like you getting caught in flagranti in Kusari House Space. While I have no authority to order you to inform me about what exactly it was that you were doing out there, and why the hell it had to be done in person and on Secret Intelligence Service marked assets, I urge you to tell me anyway as I believe it would be in the interest of both your department and mine to not interfere with each other's operations.

And bloody hell, I was serious about what I told you, Director. If you are lacking manpower, simply send me a message. A man of your rank should not leave his desk unless absolutely necessary. Imagine what could have happened. You could have gotten killed, or worse, kidnapped. Do you understand how much of an embarrassment this would be for Bretonia?

By the way, on another note. During my patrol through the Taus today - after babysitting you on the way back to Bretonia - I have encountered a possibly interesting woman at Freeport 10 in the Tau-37 system. Her name is Ashikaga Tsudzuri. The initial conversation was a bit of a verbal duet, a back and forth about hypothetical combat badassery. When we settled for a more civil conversation, she explained that she is both a former Blood Dragon and a former Gen'an Chrysanthemum, now without a job. I offered her that Bretonia could always make good use of a woman like her, with insight about the current events in Kusari, and that she should consider sending a message to you.

Don't get your hopes up, though, as she seemed rather unimpressed by the offer. When I returned to Tau-37 later, she was in the middle of some kind of chaotic clash directly at Freeport 10, where Gallic Royalists and Maltese pilots seemed to cause trouble. I've seen an Auxesian vessel there, too. The same that was tailing us in Kyushu. The woman had mentioned that Auxesia was talking with her before, so I guess I'm not the only one who saw a possible informant there. That being said, if she gives you a call, I suggest taking the chance. Whatever you were coming to Kusari for, that woman may or may not be helpful for your plans.

Given our odd introduction to one another, I think for now it would be better if your department took care of Kusari. After yesterdays little adventure, your point need not be made any clearer. I shall withdraw my people from Kusari and leave it in your capable hands. As for why we were there, it was less about Kusari and more about the company they keep. However after being informed by not just the Kusarians but also members of the Armed Forces, my own men and a few others, I believe the word 'paranoid' might be aptly used here. As such the SIS will put a hold on Kusarian operations for the time being and I shall force myself to be content flying a desk for the foreseeable future.

Handsome face.

I'm pleased I got to meet you again, Director. Let me clarify, I do not have any issues with you or the Secret Intelligence Service. In fact, I hope we can operate together when necessary. That being said, I feel like your interest in Auxesia is quite a peculiar one. Before I saw your name on my scanner in Baffin today, I only had a hot guess on what you were doing in Kusari, but seeing you with Revenant and your debriefing words in Newcastle just a few minutes ago made things rather clear to me. Do not worry, though, I will leave this to you without interfering.

That being said, I do have a few questions about the situation with the Technocracy, as they call themselves. Could you fill me in on what the Secret Intelligence Service knows about the history of Auxesia with Bretonia as well as the current status? Considering they are declared as Intel group and operating in the Taus and Kusari, I would appreciate whatever you can tell me about them, and maybe, what your current approach on them is. Are you trying to get on better terms with them, or are you trying to fight them?

I've also gotten another chance to talk with Ashikaga Tsudzuri again. Don't expect any transmissions from her. If anything, she has only shown willingness to work for me, not to be the pawn of someone's chessboard. I've noticed she is in contact with the same Auxesian as you are, and I have the feeling Miss Ashikaga is in the uncomfortable position of being between two groups fighting over her capabilities. If you happen to come across Miss Ashikaga, I recommend being extremely careful until one can tell what the range of her dealings with Revenant is.

I take it Caliban is trustworthy? He, at least, seems to be an enemy of the Royalists, considering I tried to help him before he got hit by those ECM-heavy Royalists.

Given recent events I have given the order to pull out of Kusari completely. An order that was recently ignored by one of my deputies, he will have a chance to rethink his decision while commanding a desk in Poole. Therefore, anything related to Kusari can fall upon your desk and not mine, including your communications with Ashikaga Tsudzuri, more importantly I don't believe she would contact me if she is already dealing with you, you who have already proven to be a capable Intelligence Officer in your own right.

Auxesia and Bretonia have a very complicated relationship which is currently more akin to a couple of once star crossed lovers who now despise one another but occasionally desire to return to what they had before deciding the other person is unsufferable and so. In short, they were welcomed into the Inverness system, back when it was connected to Bretonia, when the connection was severed, they declared the system their rightful property. Something the Crown took issue with as I'm sure you can imagine. The SIS did maintain an listening post in the system, Dunedin, but Auxesia ultimately destroyed it.

Caliban is currently on probation. I would appreciate it if you kept that information away from him for the time being.

Kind Regards:

Director,

Thank you for answering my questions.

Do not worry about us interacting with Caliban in any capacity. They are your subject and apart from cooperation in the field, like yesterday in Baffin, where they tried their best to fight off two, then three Royalists with notably high levels of Electronic Countermeasures (//up to 98% consistent lag), Overseer will fully respect your sole authority over them and avoid interfering with your operations with them. It seems like this individual, from what I was able to witness, is quite a handful to deal with.

Thank you for the summary on the situation with the Technocracy. I was aware of the situation regarding Inverness, but I was hoping there was more to lament over than the loss of a listening post and them laying a claim onto a system with very little economic and strategic value. To think that this has not gotten resolved diplomatically, yet, seems to me like a missed opportunity, but I take it your involvement with Revenant aims for an alteration of the status quo for the better.

I hope you don't miss out on giving me a call when you decide that your personal presence on the field is absolutely necessary, Director. I'm slowly getting used to hear your charming voice through my speakers.

Director,

Would it be possible to invite you to a personal meeting?

In space, preferably. At least for the beginning, until we move to a location better suited for a discrete private conversation. Newcastle, where we parted last time. Give me a time and I will be there.

Director,

I understand it has been a while since we heard word from each other. I take it the paperwork demands most of your attention?
