Security questions to discovery mod / general questions about characters - Miner-558 - 03-05-2023
Good day,
I have some questions regarding the mod security and general questions.
1. Are the downloads from discovery and moddb safe? I know those 2 are the original ones to get discovery from, but Last week when i downloaded discovery 1.91(i dont remember the exact Version but it was the newest available there) and the first Download resulted in an Network Error. As i changed the mirror the Download was about 100kb and another was about 4-5mb, so No problem, i think its because the mirrors are overused at that time, right?
2. Sometimes the Microsoft Security screen (idk the name) does a warning for the mod when trying installing it. Is it still present? I dont know which mod version it was but one version triggered that warning. Should i ignore these if they occur? I know the mod is safe but im cautious.
3. As i installed the mod on an unconnected PC for Testing the game, some weird green words were standing on the upper left side on the screen when i started the game, is it safe? It was something like "enb series gta vice city" and under that "some Name. Some Name. Some Domain ending".
4. I want to make a fresh game install with a fresh character Account because of Security. I had the game played on a PC long ago and i didnt know if i had something like Malware on it, so i want to make a new account for my new characters as i dont know if something got transferred when i used the old account on my new PC long ago...So i think there is all okay, but can i get the ship price from the character into the characters money count if i sell it so i can delete it? I dont know but i had the bug long ago when i wanted to delete an character and i dont know if this still occurs.
I know those questions are a bit paranoid due to Security concerns but im looking forward to make a fresh install and doing everything correct. Anyway i have to replace my hard drive as it is going to worn out and that is the right moment for the new freelancer game install.

Answering your third question, when you install the mod, there is a option to enable bloom which is a buggy legacy addon blinds your eyes, and yes it also adds that weird green text at corner
to remove it, go to Freelancer/EXE folder delete the d3d8.dll something something, I forgot the full name, its harmless tho majority do not use it

I don't know much about the ENB series but I'm pretty sure the green stuff is because of the bloom mod. You can ignore the security warning when trying to install the mod, it does that.
It's fine to backup your characters, they can't really be malware unless some serious voodoo magic stuff is going on, they're just xml files.
If you want to entirely wipe everything, including settings, delete the Freelancer folder in your program files, and delete the saves in the My Documents/My Games/Freelancer and /Discovery area. And also delete your discovery folder, whereever you saved it. Sometimes saves in Appdata/Local for some reason.
BACK UP YOUR ACCOUNT FIRST TO SOMEWHERE SAFE, like google drive etc. If you have the discovery launcher, select your accounts, right click, export selected accounts.
