Barge changes PoB demand. - Sniper - 04-28-2023 There are 33 barges in use within the game. The introduction has had an impact that changes the way we utilise PoBs and it is no surprise that a large number of PoBs will be scrapped. Unless it has a key value/purpose such as mining or manufacturing, or bulk storage, or Defence then it is valueless maintaining that number of PoB's. Many will go because the need is no longer there for a simple bulk transfer depository to allow 5k ships to land and load to take ore to various places. One short mining operation loading up a barge with 30,000 CuMetres - 6 trains - of ore defeats the need to have a transfer station. RE: Barge changes PoB demand. - Lemon - 04-28-2023 Well, yeah, you don't need a transfer station as much for your faction, it's meant as a base to sell to others. Once the PoB changes Zentor was working on are figured out and adapted PoBs will have a lot more utility again. They also now don't zone areas and create grids, e.g. the Navy one on Manhattan also lost it's purpose. If you could write your own rumors, refine RP commodities and do the other neat things like backdoor for shady stuff they will regain some of the lost utility. RE: Barge changes PoB demand. - Couden - 04-28-2023 Just shrink pob storage modules hold to 1 RE: Barge changes PoB demand. - St.Denis - 04-28-2023 There are currently 41 Barges in the Game: 7 were given away after the Barge Race Event. 1 was auctioned off after an Event 33 have been sold since the were introduced. As for the POBs, I envisage that the numbers will drop to about 150. Quite a few of the 'Mining' Bases are not used for personal storage of Ores, but open for everyone to use so they have access to ores when there are no miners around. These ones will still have a purpose. RE: Barge changes PoB demand. - Chenzo- - 04-28-2023 Some players have more than one barge. Despicable. If the production of certain commodities can be done with ‘factories’ like lots of ‘zentor’ related posts I’ve read are true then more PoB’s will probably appear. Let’s not also forget that PoBs’ owned by certain individuals have no commercial/credits reason to exist- they are a basis for RP- priceless. They cost lots of time and credits to build/maintain but their fundamental reason for existing is that of RP- open avenues of which would otherwise never exist. Its actually not that easy to use a barge for the ridiculous purpose that the OP claim. Mainly because of how slow they are, and because of how piracy works. Its totally reasonable to demand 30-50% of a load (seeing as you can demand half the actual cargo). In a barge full of ore, that can't cloak, can't defend itself and can't run. That's a easy 100-150m demand for each piracy interaction. Barges are a big risk to use with Ore mining. They're great for PoB supplies, as they often provide a significant time saving compared to using a single 5K ship. Priceless indeed! There are myriad reasons why people have PoB's and RP'd are best. Many are quiet - used for functional reasons. Some just like the sense of belonging that owning and maintaining a PoB engenders, having a stake in the game and many have histories that are tied up with the fun that surrounds building them. Many histories have precious memories of happy times that are valued more than the purpose and are maintained for those sentimental reasons. |
