Diversifying the Company - Niles Avery - 06-19-2023

Avery strode into the conference room designated to him by the aide. The immaculate room contained a massive, lavishly expensive realwood long table, its appropriate chairs, 3 large artistic renderings of ships the company had been involved in, including the iconic Shukensha liner, and a large display screen.
No one had arrived yet, owing to his incessant need to be way too early to any interaction, so Niles set his case down on the glossy surface and removed his data slate from within. Unbuttoning his suit jacket, he took a seat and opened up the project files related to his last mission in the Omegas. The process had taken longer than he'd wished but no less a success for the company, as all assets were acquired at a total steal, to be frank. The delays only came when the worker riots slowed down the property transfer. What did they expect though? He mused, no labour unions or government to guarantee their position, meant this was bound to happen.
"Guess they just expected a savior." he quietly mused. All of course had been under the name of a shell company, can't let this kinda thing reach IC shareholders….
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of quick paced footsteps in the corridor outside as three individuals strode in, the foremost giving him a quick nod as he crossed the room to the head of the table.

Colin Parsons did not waste any time entering the room to begin this meeting, as he was already a little put off at having to pause his pursuits in Omicron Delta for what he considered was a purely transactional housekeeping issue. However, when the financing gets creative and needs a little 'arms length' work, he often was called in to ensure things were in preferred arrangement to properly reflect the corporation's best interests.
Today, he was joined with another representative, Eylon de Vados, and her aide, at the CEO's request. Don was a stickler for getting certain reports in person - he could be paranoid that way - but understandable with sensitive data given Liberty's inability to quell the Lane Hacker problems most corporations in their house faced.
The group established their position at the table seated closest to their confident associate, assembling their individual work areas for the proceedings in short order.

"Niles, my friend! If you keep slacking and missing your overly optimistic deadlines, you may find fewer opportunities getting dropped into your lap! All kidding aside, nicely done wrapping this one up."
"I suppose you are going to tell us now that you are bored... guys like you don't seem to stay idle for long... "

"Great to see you again, Mr. Avery. Don sends his regards and congratulations on your latest achievement for Interspace Commerce's interests. Our unique business relationship has definitely had its benefits and proved profitable, despite its unfortunate downsides. It's all business in the end, and we appreciate your position in spearheading these efforts... including keeping our greater business out of the crossfire."

Niles crossed his legs and leaned back into the deep cushioned office chair and a smirk came across his face as he took the heckling from his colleagues with enjoyment.
"Colin, a pleasure as always to see you, Ms. de Vados, you as well." he turned nodding to both in sequence.
"Well, I suppose you can say that Colin. These missions keep me busy and I of course enjoy the scope of autonomy they afford me to see about their completion, but yes, I was hoping you might have something a little more, spicy to tackle. Stretch my creative muscles, if you will. I've been pestering up the line to see if I could dig up anything interesting going on across the company and I knew you'd be the person to talk to. I'm told you might have something for me?" cocking his head and raising his eyebrows slightly in an inquisitive fashion.

Eylon glaces over at Colin, looking for reaction to Niles' request for a challenge. They had briefly discussed a few scenarios he might be interested in, including some of the larger acquisitions recently procured. He notes her gaze and looks for some acknowledgement that they should unload their big score unto their associate. She nods slightly and the course of action is understood.

"So you need a creative challenge, do you?" A large grin forms on his face.
"Our finance genius Mr. Collins performs his job with great ferocity, securing favorable deals for AWES where most fear to even start to negotiate terms. Unfortunately, lately he's been almost overperforming and it's left us a little 'asset heavy'."
He motions to Eylon to continue with the proposal.

"Mr. Collins has managed to purchase the large base in the Manchester system from Deep Space Engineering, going by the name of Old Trafford. Unfortunately while the deal was sound, our resources allocated to this project was not sufficient and, in the end, not enough to properly implement a focused business strategy for it. This caused it to fall short of expectations."
"The Executive has decided to use your skills in revitalizing this asset as you see fit, preferably under a new shell corp to keep your affairs separate from our other operations. This should allow your full autonomy without our need for oversight. Any profits from the venture back to our end of the transaction would be purely expense line items, under the Insurance or Logistics branches."

Niles Avery sat up straight rather quickly, eyes getting brighter for a flash, his lackadaisical demeanor straightening into visible intrgue.
"Very interesting. I've been waiting for such an opportunity to arise but was doubtful I'd see it." He touched his forefinger to his lips and tiled his head slightly, looking into the void thoughtfully.
"Well, I do think I have some interesting pathways to go down with "the company" given this situation. I believe I have just the thing in mind for registering the shell corp to. I'll get with Leo in accounting about setting this up correctly. Shoot me the deets about the current station manifest if you will, and any other pertinent info I should know. I'd like to get after this at once." Niles tossed his data slate into his case and started bouncing a knee subconsciously.
"You two have given me immense excitement. I'm sure Trafford will do the company well in my hands. Was there anything else before I get going to Manchester?"

The pair shake their heads in unison to answer Niles' query, then get up from the table, and head over to where he is seated, extending a hand each in closing of another arrangement.

"It's a big station, my boy! Keep it collared and controlled, and it'll open up many doors. Bretonia is a land of opportunities for all sorts of commerce and manufacturing - I'll sure you'll be a big wheel in no time."
