KICKED TO DESTOP, PLEASE HELP - First_Prime - 08-11-2023

Greetings Everyone,

After installing Disco on a freshly installed Windows 11 I have noticed several issues which I cannot resolve, and hence I need help. The first issue is the resolution, it says that my resolution is 2560 X 1440 which is the same as my desktop, however, visually it appears much lower and also I am unable to change it. The writing appears to be pretty large as with any low resolution. One other thing, which is probably related to resolution, my speed was not displayed.

The second and more important problem is when I undock or try to dock I get kicked out of the game back to desktop and game terminates. If I do not get kicked from the game while undocking, then 100% of the time I get kicked while docking.

Fresh install of Windows 11 and fresh install Freelancer Discovery. No other issues with my PC or software.

Will appreciate any help that I can get.

Thank you all!

Do you use the iGPU or the dGPU on your computer?
Did you enabled the "DirectPlay"? This is located on Control Panel > Program and Features > Windows Features > Legacy Components > Direct Play
Now, let's check about your resolution
2560x1440 is a 16:9 Resolution, so you should go to edit some files in game Smile
In game data of Freelancer DISCOVERY inside "Interface" there is a file called "HudShift.ini"
[HUDShift]
Horizontal = 0.17
These should be your datas: ; 16:9 (1280x720, 1440x810, 1600x900, 1920x1080, 2560x1440).
[;HUDShift]
Horizontal = 0.17
If not change it, after it, probably you could need the d3d9 file or something like that that could help with it ...
As far i am able to detect, try checking your log file in Documents > MyGames > Discovery Freelancer > DSAce.log ... try check if there is a hidden message ....
Ah! Remember the game should not go beyond the 144-155 FPS or game will and probably crash while pull a cheat message cause of it ...
But as i cannot know your hardware i can't explain you better, if you brief me with it, i could try to locate a better answer and maybe help to find a solution to the issue you are showing to us .... because "Game terminates" could mean a simply driver failure to a whole game or computer failure ...
---
As a workaround in the launcher (cause you need launch the game from launcher) try enable the Desktop Resolution, if that don't work, move the slider and put a resolution like 1920x1080 for example, to see if Windowed Mode of the game keeps crashing so we can look further into the issue and reduce culpability and find a solution faster Smile

P.D: Don't put a Title in Mayus, cause in Internet "It's like you're screaming" and we don't wanna scream right? we should be polite to get a polite answer.

Uknown, thank you for the comprehensive reply!

My harware is as follows: MSI Z390 MEG ACE motherboard, I9 9900K CPU, 64 gb G. Skill TridantZ ram, and RX580 (8GB) GPU. The GPU I have been using for a long time to play Freelancer Discovery, the motherboard, CPU, and Ram are new to Freelancer Discovery.

Also, when I get kicked there is no message from server, so it is probably not related to anti-cheat. Direct Play is enabled. I tried changing the desktop resolution but it had no effect. the resolution in game remained the same but did not match the visuals. Visuals were of a much lower resolution. As far as the file DSAce.log, I did not find anythinging unusual there. The resolution in the file matched my desktop. Will try other stuff that you mentioned and will get back to you.

Thank you very much

Managed to change resolution in game to 1920 X 1080, however, visuals did not change and got kicked trying to dock. Also, in game options, I was not able to change resolution. Only 1920 X 1080 was available for me to select.

Do not seem to have a file HUDSHIFT.ini, instead have a file HUD.ini. Also restricted the frame rates to 60 FPS but that did not help either, Same problem remains. I have another PC with Discovery on it and it works just fine; it also does not have HUDSHIFT.ini file but does have a HUD.ini file.

RE: KICKED TO DESTOP, PLEASE HELP - Uknown - 08-12-2023

Okay, let's try another aproach, we need one file
D3D8.7z
With it you need to put this file into
*:\*\*\Freelancer Discovery\EXE
Decompress it obviously, jsjs
Now, let's talk about it
It will make your GPU use this file to convert the calls of DX8 (which anything above 2015 GPUs don't recognize at all) to something DX9 they can talk ...
it need show like this
[Image: xTMsCZn.png]

Try it after you get the file to see how it drives ...

The setting would force to use the GPU to render, instead only the CPU Mode (which would be slow) of course has a handicap ... it will "Lock" at the framerate of your monitor, best if used Full-screen mode, if you have more than 144-155FPS should use a stopover like RTSS Software to reduce the amount of FPS rendering on screen

In Windows 10 the setting is on:
Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings - From there you look for a Classic Application on route and put the .exe of the discovery freelancer game Smile and Goddamint! you should render on GPU :3 (Please don't use AA from GPU, i tried with Nvidia ones and it literally blow the game with a nice Crash)

I catch the files Hudshift.dll and Hudshift.ini in order to look after it
Hudshift.ini
Hudshift.dll

P.D: This ones go on Discovery Folder and from there inside the EXE Folder Smile

Here is a detailed tutorial for the Hudshift from Nebula discord.

RE: KICKED TO DESTOP, PLEASE HELP - First_Prime - 08-12-2023

I have some additional information which might be helpful. I have no problem logging in moving around the station, undocking, or even flying around. The problem starts after I initiate docking procedure. It goes through the motions and once the cinimatography ends and the ship docks that is when I get kicked and the game is terminated. And when I loggin the next time the ship is docked and everything is onboard, meaning I did not go up in flames. Also, there is no message of any kind on the server when that happens.

I have several PCs which are running Discovery at same resolution with the same GPU. They both have seemingly identical HUDSHIFT.ini files. I have thoses files but they are located not in the interface but in the EXE directory. The only difference between the two PCs is that the one with Windows 10 works and the one with windows 11 is causing problems.

Tried the file it did not help. Any ohter ideas are welcome and thank you for the effort.
