Switzerland during World War II - Heartless - 04-29-2009 So here it is, my pride and joy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySJMBX_TWwI I'm doing my part in teaching everyone about Switzerland during World War II and during World growth in general. I mean, have you looked at a WWII map? Switzerland all around surrounded by the Axis? Ever wonder how that was possible? Well this is just a little thing I made, I hope you all enjoy it and feel free to ask questions, I'll be more than happy to answer. Thanks for reading and extra kudos for watching! -Swissy:) Switzerland during World War II - Turkish - 04-29-2009 It feels like Swiss propaganda, can you explain to me how Switzerland is the world's most powerful democracy? Switzerland during World War II - bluntpencil2001 - 04-29-2009 Um... Being surrounded by a nation with which they weren't at war isn't that much of an achievement in my book... Contributing to the war would involve doing something, no? I mean, Ireland, Spain and Sweden didn't really contribute to the war either... Switzerland during World War II - tazuras - 04-29-2009 Pretty good, although I dont know if I would say the same thing If I hadnt studied WWII and the general disposition of Europe around that time in college.... ' Wrote:Um... Oh, and the achievement was that they werent attacked, because the Axis knew Switzerland was so strong that attempting to conquer it may have made them lose the war. It isn't an achievement, really. You'd think that Germany had more important things to worry about, like millions of Soviet soldiers on the Eastern Front. Portugal wasn't invaded in WW2 either. This wasn't much of an achievement either. Switzerland during World War II - Sarawr!? - 04-29-2009 ' Wrote:Um... Actually... Ireland did contribute to the war..not as a nation, but the IRA helped the Reich, to a degree, with fighting the British, they didn't contribute for the right side, but they did contribute. XD. You'd think that Germany had more important things to worry about, like millions of Soviet soldiers on the Eastern Front. I suppose, Switzerland would have given the Germans a strategically strong position though, just the fact that it is between countries they were conquering (unlike Portugal) and they chose to go around it says something I think. But I dont know enough about Swiss history to say definitively either way. Switzerland during World War II - Cyberanson - 04-29-2009 In my humble opinion, your video is lacking backgrounds. A lot of. I know it's easy to go into the direction, everybody goes in, which is in general: Germans (and allies) were the bad, the rest was good. Please don't misunderstand my words here, as I don't want to justify the history. War is always a bad thing, but it's important to understand the reason of wars. (Because this is a very complex topic, I only want to bring up some points, which are significant in my opinion.) You missed the statement, that Germany didn't start the war because they were all mad or evil. I studied many historical documents and talked to a lot of people about that. My conclusion was: Poland provoked the start of the war with their behaviour against the Germans on their territory. (Which was heavily supported by the UK.) This goes hand in hand with the fact, that Poland received parts of the old German Empire unlawfully. (As it's against the Hague Convention respecting the Laws and Customs of War on Land.) I could talk for hours and bring up a lot of more facts, but I think this would be wrong here. My only wish would be: please look at both sides before creating such propaganda. Switzerland during World War II - ugliestmoose - 04-29-2009 I hate to crap on your parade but if we're gonna talk about countries whose contributions to WWII are ignored, look first and foremost at what Finland did. They held off a Soviet force of 1.5 million men for a year, without any outside aid and using nothing more advanced than rifles and molotov cocktails, with the Finnish army being only a quarter million strong. Granted, this was right after Stalin purged every competent military mind from the Red Army and put his troops under the command of politicians and Party butt-kissers, but I still say it's pretty damn impressive. The Winter War, as it was called, was one of the main events that encouraged Hitler to invade Russia, as he saw how poorly the Soviets fared against a seeming backwater with a tiny military. So, really, you could say the Finns are the reason Hitler lost:P You can read more about it here. EDIT: Amid the rambling I forgot to say nice vid:) Switzerland during World War II - sean24 - 04-29-2009 Looks like swizerland was pretty hard hit. Good video though scorch, I like it :) |
