New here! looking for answers :) - Grimshad - 05-01-2009

So me and 40 of my closest gamer friends got discovery and are playing on our own server (warming up b4 we go to Discovery)

There is one big thing we don't understand, in a lot of peoples sigs here, they are part of a faction (IE: Lane hackers) yet, we can find no way to become part of factions in our server, nor can we figure out how to lane hack:D

The other thing is Ive read about "ownership" of systems? Whats that all about. Someone care to fill me in on the more complex part of this mod?

Also a question to the devs: First die like to say you are doing an amazing job. Second, the mod WTS World has 550 new ships, 300-400 of which are most likely very awesome(looking anyhow). The rest are pretty crappy(such as the propeller planes? no idea why those were put in, they look and are ridiculous). Anywho, my question is, do you think you could possibly add some of their more amazing ships to Discovery? So far I haven't seen very many ships in discovery with appealing aesthetics(im sure there are some, i just haven't found them). WTS is littered with them, and I think if you were to add even just some of them, it would make the game more appealing(which ive read is your goal, to make the game better and make people want to play it more). Ive checked out the WTS mod structure and it seems visually easy to add the ships over, I'm sure it would be time consuming(especially balancing) But then you may not need to balance if you make more then one of the same ship and just have it visually different instead of a completely diff ship with diff stats. Gives players more choices. Anyway i think im typing too much here, so on a final note, if, you happen to agree with any of this or want to try doing this, and if your going to be looking for permission to use the ships in WTS, the creator of the mod is still very active(with posts this month on his forum, its unfortunate that the WTS community is dead) I didn't like the mod itself, but the visually stunning ships and variety reeled me in for a while until i found discovery.

Thanks if I get answers:)good or bad

P.S. sorry for the wall of text

Factions are simply a group of players that align under a faction IFF and have some measure of political clout.

We've done our best to make this a continuation of Freelancer, and so we haven't inserted any outside ships. (Well, we did, but those have been mostly replaced.)

Here is a thread with renders of (most of) the ships in Discovery.

There's bound to be at least one you like.

Take care, RP, and enjoy!

Boss didnt touch on system ownership so I will cover that. After a 4 month presence a faction can purchase a faction system in which they gain additional rights in. They can also pay developers to make things to add to those systems once they own them. They cannot own any vanilla system or systems that contains more than one faction. The system purchase request thread, which had some details about it, is here.

Your right, there are a few ships that are nice, but I think too many are just a pile :\

I'll just have to grab one of the nice ones:D

But still, even being true to freelancer itself, I don't think new ships would hurt in anyway.

Thanks for the response btw!

one: the more stuff we add in, the slower the server will be. we also have enough ships right now.*caugh*councilVHF*caugh*

two: welcome to discovery.

three: please do not try to buy a battleship really fast. they look cool. but can be killed by about 3 players.

four: read the sanction reports. they help you understand what not to do.

five: send money to: Dex"Raptor"

six: have fun, and join some factions. i suggest the KNF (kusari navel forces)

one: are there possibly any tutorials on how to mod freelancer (adding ships in general) AND is there anything from Discovery stating that Discovery cannot be modded?

two: Thanks

three: I'm not interested in battleships, i like to fight and mine/trade, its too bad noone has figured out how to allow you to have 2 or more ships at once:(

four: what are sanction reports and where do i find them?

five: how do i send money?

six: will look into that when we decide we have enough experience to join the big leagues.

I would second the suggestion to join the Kusari Naval Forces. You really don't need to be "in the big leagues" to join a faction. A lot of factions will take you and teach you how to play the game, how to roleplay, as well as their faction's own story.

And just to clarify, factions are just a group of players that got together, organized themselves around an NPC group or something of their own idea, and roleplay as part of that group. There's nothing really special about it, except for the fact that once you get established and respected, you have a lot of clout within the community.

There's a lot of stuff in this mod that is actually just in the forums, and not coded into the game. I suggest you and your friends read through the Rules of Discover (multiple times) as well as the rest of the forum. It's really an amazing community here, and we'd love to have you join us.

you can have more than one ship... just on different characters. And only 5 characters per account...

sanction reports are here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showforum=43

server rules are here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4040

you send money (on the official discovery server) by typing in /givecash (player) (amount). So something like /givecash APM-Virgo 1000000 would give me 1 million credits:D

On commands, /help will give you the list, there's a whole slew.

And here, would be rather a lot of modding tutorials.

New here! looking for answers :) - Grimshad - 05-01-2009

Thanks for the info Unselie, however, I ended up finding an extremely long detailed 45min long video on exactly what I was looking for:)

So, I took a look at the sanctions, it seems that everyone gets everything taken from them constantly, 10 million seems to be the normal fine, Ive never even seen 10 million in this game, most Ive had is maybe 2 million, and then you lose everything else you have if you don't have the cash to pay the fine. seems a bit extreme, although i do understand that things need to be done to keep order especially in RP, don't know how ill survive with the 100's of rules i have to remember and 10 million per fine -_-

New here! looking for answers :) - Hawkwings - 05-01-2009

Honestly, 10 million isn't that much. My trader can make that much money in one loop, about half an hour. The more important thing is that if you get sanctioned, the community knows about it, and you have to work extra hard to earn any trust.
