My name is Michela Calliente of the Deterrence. Yes, you read that right, I represent the interests of the Corsair Imperio.

Before you press “Delete“, allow me to quickly explain that this is not a trick or some silly joke. I’ve absolutely no intention of wasting your or my time either. I have some begrudging respect for the competition, but my interests are firmly into protecting the Corsair sovereignty, integrity, and our interests. Make no mistake.

Now that's out of the way - I would have not contacted you unless I didn’t consider it vital. I will get straight to the point. The current conflict is a sham. A ploy for an open war between our people in order to weaken us. I’ve read your dossier. Our intelligence suggests the profile of a smart and calculating woman, one that’s flexible. Ask yourself the question - who benefits the most out of depleted Corsairs and Outcasts? I’ll mince no words in stating that I believe the true purpose of this conflict is for Core and the Bounty Hunter Guild to weaken both our nations, while moving in the aftermath. In short, you are being puppeteered and led on a string.

We have strong reasons to suspect that some of the Zoners on Freeport 9 are complicit in the recent assassination and they were paid off by Core. The match that lit the fire. And while I would prefer to see the Outcasts dead, there’s balance in a cold war with the occasional small scale skirmish. I’m sure this would allow us to pursue other more fruitful avenues.

I can already guess your next question - where is the proof? We don’t have it. It’s a guess. But we both know that’s better than a guess. There’s more at play here and I am sure you can feel that too. I would rather be honest and direct than to send some fabrication for Outcasts operatives to disassemble eventually. A little truth opens doors, as the saying goes, and we are running out of time. Even if you win, this conflict would cost you dearly.

Make your own independent inquiry, check the facts. True or not, it will change the narrative until cooler heads prevail and figure out what really happened. I suggest you consider my words, no one benefits from an all-out war while our other enemies gather strength.

I must say, I was quite taken aback when a message of this nature appeared on my personal terminal. Let us assume, for the moment, that I am a pragmatic Outcast and am willing to entertain what you have to propose.

It is true that from a certain perspective, this conflict appears alarmingly bloody - an escalation previously unseen in our rivalry. However, you must understand that Omicron Theta is uncomfortably close to Omicron Alpha, our home, and any Corsair stronghold on our borders will, naturally, cause us disquiet.

What are you prepared to offer to de-escalate the situation in Omicron Theta between our nations?

I am afraid you’ll have to trust in good faith. You understand that the more radical elements of my government would never agree to a big exchange - especially with the assassination that took place.

Having said that, while our fleets are going all-out, my operatives are looking for evidence that Core and the Guild are behind this geopolitical fallout. I will say this - if I find anything solid, I will send it your way.

Meanwhile, I suggest you carry out an independent investigation into your own government, Core, and the Guild. I would not be surprised if someone is on somebody else’s payroll. If you catch my drift.

You might not suppose what I say, but believe this, regardless of who wins over this station - both militaries will be exhausted in the days to come. Our forces will stop at nothing as I’m sure yours will neither. Wars rarely end when we want them to. Our mutual enemies are likely to exploit that weakness as is customary for the Omicrons.

Bottomline, it is in your own interest - financially and militarily to de-escalate this conflict. A long-term military solution is not practical for either of us. You have to deal with the slave revolts, we have our own matters to attend to. Our fleets have so far responded only defensively and to pacify the station after our loss. As tempting as it is to empower the Zoners, they lack a unified government and have a flaky allegiance at best. Distasteful as Outcasts may be, working with one’s rivals is sometimes necessary to preserve the precarious balance of the region. Fanatics and rabid dogs get put down regardless of their allegiance. We are predictable on the other hand.

Find out what’s really happening, lest our enemies come for both of us.

I must admit I did not have high hopes of you taking me seriously. In fact, I even had a bet with one of my superiors on this subject. Guess, I am a lucky hermana tonight.

Now, let’s talk business - events are unfortunately unraveling exactly as predicted. Considering your victory in the last standard day, I have every reason to believe your Dons will push on the offensive now even further. Believing themselves superior and on the cusp of true victory. They are falling in a trap and the noose is tightening. How many ships and people did you lose in the last 3 days? My analysts are still busy making conjectures on that one. The point remains - both our forces are getting depleted to the benefit of Core. It’s only a matter of time before you get double-crossed. And even if you don’t, a long term conflict serves no one.

In terms of concrete actions, I’ve followed up with my own independent investigation. The moment I have something tangible, I will share it with my government and urge de-escalation. It would speed up the process if you provide any evidence that you’ve uncovered. My word may not amount to much but I will protect the identity of my source if you share your data. Not to mention, my own people will think I am crazy to trust you. My offer still stands as well, if I uncover something worthwhile on Core and the Guild, I will pass it on to you.

For now, I will do my best to urge the Elders to safeguard the current balance of power despite the recent turn of events.

Your intuition is correct - our swift tactical victory has clouded the judgment of some of my people, and they are willing to go further than is strictly necessary. I do not need a crystal ball to know that Crete is not yet finished with Omicron Theta. I have presented my findings and arguments to the most influential on Malta, including the risks such escalation poses for Malta, yet whether they make the right decisions is entirely up to them. After all, our former rivalry grew into a total war for existence, and this war became the essence of many Outcasts and Corsairs for quite some time.

I am sending you my findings regarding Core attached. The only edit to this record is the removal of my associate’s voice track.

You have done a great favor to both our nations. Especially when my contacts have failed to produce anything concrete as of yet. I fully understand that trusting me with this evidence is not easy. I will put it to good use without compromising you. Our goals look to be aligned - preventing the mutually assured destruction of our people.

I will bring this information to the relevant parties within the Corsair Imperio. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and finally see these events as a prelude to something more dangerous - Core and the Guild sweeping the rug under both of us. I shall urge the war council to de-escalate our open warfare policy back to the stability of our usual hostility and competition. A cold war is largely a bloodless war - mutual distrust and complete co-dependence together with the occasional raids and small skirmishes. Who would want to change that? And at what cost?

I would do my best to focus our attention on our real enemies. Perhaps even attempt to raise a summit for the high-ups of Crete and Malta to discuss some form of non-aggression and an official statement. I hear my predecessors managed to secure such understanding before in Knossos with no major transgressions from either side. Who knows, we might be able to do it again. Ultimately, it would be best for both of us.

The Order and Core are culpable for intensifying this war. They whispered possibilities of significant victories to both Corsairs and Outcasts for years, ambitions grander than they could manage themselves. Each seeks to establish their petty fiefdoms in the Omicrons with colonies-like laws. The Order desperately requires you as pawns in their fanatical crusade against us, and it was no different with the Core when military victories were bought with Maltese blood.

Both are insignificant without us at their sides, and both should experience consequences for transgressions against the Children of Hispania.
