New Returning Player Aid - Avalanche - 12-24-2023

Edit: Proposal changed on 28-12-23. Instead of Proposal 1 overriding the current vet package, I've now included the current vet package alongside Proposal 1. This gives more choice to returning players and satisfies the current 16 votes split.

- -

Christmas week started and came back to see Wildkins updated Vet Aid. Kudos. Visually much easier to digest.

Miner, transport, fighter. Pretty sweet deal...

Vet: "I don't want to mine. I don't want to trade. I don't want to be a freelancer. No thanks, goodbye".

We can do better.

.
Proposal 1
  • Give one (edit: or two) million credits. It's a much cooler offer.
Scrap the predetermined ships. Don't funnel them to trade or mine. Encourage them to /restartme to their favourite part of Sirius and relive their experiences easily with a good amount of cash. They can more freely decide what to do then.

.

.
Proposal 2
  • No hidden player request. Want it? You post post publicly.
Returning players is great advertisement for both current players and lurkers. I want to see every time a vet returns, it bumps this entire forum. Let's use it to create a buzz. Create conversation.

.

Example in the post below:

Note
  • To qualify, you should not have been playing for one year and have few, if any, characters with a small total worth today.

1 mil is simply not enough. You can't even buy a Gunboat with this sum of money, while old package alllows you to get a unique ship, potentiallly worth 10 times that

Unfortunately I don't play, so I'm just giving it a best guess. Proposal 1 is focused around cash rather than predetermined assets. Do you agree with P1 in principle and if so, what cash amount is better?

RE: New Returning Player Aid - Karpfen - 12-24-2023

I returned recently and enjoyed to work my way up. However, I am aware more PVP-focussed players wouldn't like that. A sum of cash would be good. Maybe 2 mil, so that PVP-people can get a gunboat. For bigger ships I remember everyone had to get their cash somehow, it's not like it's impossible to earn credits.

RE: New Returning Player Aid - Charos - 12-24-2023

As a returning vet, I found the current package a great way to engage back into active play as the numbers are much lower to bounty hunt/pirate or pvp in general. Trading helps you discover which parts of the game have been changed and perhaps give you a refreshing feel to help you decide where and how your future plays will take place.

I would like to see who returns so proposal 2 is for me.

As Karpfen said, 2 mil should be enough, but it's still leaving you with almost empty pocket and without options to make money quickly. So I would say, that transport is still required for a vet pack, maybe with an opportunity to swap for hegemon/kamome on request, if the mining is more interesting for the returning player

2 million will easily pay for any 5ker, so I don't see why you would need 2 million and a Trader.

As for mining, it has been superseded by trading the HRCs, and only those dedicated miners bother, nowadays, to mine.

2 Million would be enough to basically buy you the 5ker and a few VHFs. This would remove the working up through the smaller ships. When I started I enjoyed working towards my next 'bigger' ship (and no it wasn't Caps) and had a sense of achievement.

You need to have the Players work towards something. Giving them everything on a silver platter just removes the investment.

RE: New Returning Player Aid - Karpfen - 12-24-2023

Yeah, and if people don't like to trade they can get a gunboat and collect cash thru police-bribes/fines or piracy. Slower but more fun for some people, maybe. And actually, the fines for shooting down hostile NPCs help with buying smaller craft.

I agree with this gentleman, it is simply not enough for old fellas I mean I haven't written yet for veteran aid I think I should.
