Explaining Losses in RP - me_b_kevin - 05-10-2009 this may sound like sour grapes but i just wanted to voice my opinion on something and i'll keep it short. i'm not a big fan of posting kill messages on the forums. i originally wrote about my kills but it just never sat well with me. sure fighters can RP being in a pod after a loss and then getting a new ship from their faction but named ships can't do that. it's a double edged sword really, on one side you post that you killed someone's character or their irreplaceable ship. then on the other side, the ship you said you destroyed shows up a few hours later without a scratch....completely undermining your tales of conquest. so there you are...you've meta-gamed both your RP and the other guy's RP it finally boils down to bragging rights...which to me are pointless & i see no need for it on a RP server. just my opinion, do with it what you will Explaining Losses in RP - pieguy259 - 05-10-2009 Perhaps it would be better to say "forced him to flee"? Explaining Losses in RP - Grumblesaur - 05-10-2009 For things like message dumps, It's acceptable to show your kills. Otherwise, it's just people stroking their e-peen. Metagaming is something we all have our instances of. Everything in moderation. Explaining Losses in RP - Rudo - 05-10-2009 Some people want to be the guy that killed Mon'Star. I just take killing a cap as the ship taking debilitating damage and withdrawing. Components fail, compartments are breached, the primary core overloads and is ejected -- hence the flash. Once the retinas stop being seared, the backup core has taken over and you've withdrawn on emergency power. I once took battle damage in a fight (where I unfortunately pretty much pvpwhored Wilde.Abschnitt, my younger days) once and turned it into a funeral for my gunship's engineer, replete with a "casket" being launched into the Puerto Rican Rift. "You killed him? Or did you just see a bang and a big flash? Where's the bodies, the components, the guns?" I dunno where I'm going with this, really. Just a suggestion. A 'death' can simply be 'put out of action' as the blue text says. Alternately, a victory can come at a heavy price. Explaining Losses in RP - Tenacity - 05-10-2009 when I used to fly the pakhet (Zoner destroyer for my order character, aki kimura) and got killed in combat, I'd simply RP it out in forum posts or my personal log posts as the ship taking heavy damage and being forced to retreat back to evora for repairs. Explaining Losses in RP - Wolfs Ghost - 05-10-2009 I try my best to say "Downed the enemy craft" Or "Forced him to eject." in Message dumps. Explaining Losses in RP - Asgardian - 05-10-2009 I suppose you're talking about my report in the message dump? We did kinda set you up for a trap and I did hint at that. Posting the "kill-messages" is like taking a shot of the enemy ship exploding - But getting a screen of a hostile exploding is quite a bit harder. I take the screenshots so I can remember what happened and in what order. Its just a game, its not gunna be perfect. It's not so much the ship got destroyed as it was damaged severely and forced to leave. It's nice when that gets RPed and such, too. Explaining Losses in RP - Guest - 05-10-2009 Too bad there isnt a draconic way like, when you get your ship destroyed, you respawn in a starflyer...again. But i was wondering about this as well, it would be almost like godmoding, if you post a bounty collection and say you killed said person. Explaining Losses in RP - tansytansey - 05-10-2009 There are ways around it I suppose. Like the time Sindy got tail gated by a SNAC, when I posted the message dump I wrote that it tore open the back of his Barghest like a tin can and left him drifting in space with no engine power, until I was able to shake of the mercenaries from my tail and tow him back to Alcatraz. However, the bounty boards request either confirmation of kills or confirmation of ship destruction, and there's no way around that. "Oh I shot him up, crippled his ship and he got away." "Oh well, here's 1 million credits anyway." Unfortunately it doesn't work. Except in cases of bounty collection, I fully support you here, though. |
