Just like Virus101 I waited till the dsupdater was working fine, which it now does but my characters have also gone.
I was on the same time as Virus 101 since I sit next to him.
Is there any way my characters can be restored to their money making glory?

No, unfortunately there isn't anyway to recover these.

it is a shame.. i can just suggest in the future to give your accounts to someone you trust for him to keep your chars alive while you cannot log for different reasons
