The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - gezza999 - 05-13-2009 What Aland looks like: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u287/Ge...and-Picture.jpg Position of Aland on the nav-map: ![]() Infocard: Quote:CLASS: Storby Reasons to drop the number of dry-docks: It would only really build transports, and the very rare cap of some sort (Possibly, their operations are more risky in the Taus, so they'd probably have them built in Tau-44 [Singapore], contested point) It apparently took 7 years to build and is absolutely massive. For scale, Lisbon Rock took 10 years to build. The maintenance costs for it would be quite a bit, the cost of building the shipyard would also be high. The production capability of the shipyard would not be utilised. Transports ( 5000-ish cargo) would take, 2 or 3 weeks to build? You could also build quite a few of them in one dock (four at one time in each dock?) and cap orders would be low. So it's likely that a lot of the docks would be un-used. Reasons to not: The IMG use it as their main shipyard, Singapore is a CR shipyard, the IMG don't build caps there The IMG build ships slower than others so they need more docks The Vanilla shipyards all be improved instead The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - Niezck - 05-13-2009 Quote:It would only really build transports, and the very rare cap of some sort (Possibly, their operations are more risky in the Taus, so they'd probably have them built in Tau-44) This is where you're mistaken. This shipyard was added primarily because the one in 44 is CR owned, not IMG. Yes, it's IMG affiliated, but that doesn't change the fact that -we- (the IMG) don't built our ships there. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - swift - 05-13-2009 Frankly I don't mind Aland's size, and I think that all shipyards should be as big. Infocard from Singapore Shipyard (The one in T-44): Quote:Constructed shortly after the Nomad War, Singapore ' Wrote:Frankly I don't mind Aland's size, and I think that all shipyards should be as big. Eh... Vanilla shipyards are far smaller. EDIT: ' Wrote:only concern is that system modders and those that make a system wishlist want bigger and bigger and BIGGER stuff all the time - thats why the original vanilla stuff looks so low-tech and dwarfed compared to our guard systems already. That sums it up I guess. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - swift - 05-13-2009 It's only such due to the fact that the Colonial Remnant doesn't have it's own NPC faction. Had it had an NPC faction, I'd wager that the whole of 44'd belong to them, and most probably Nyxes, and Zephyrs, if not Hydras as well. All of it's IMG because the Colonial Remnant was part of the IMG until some point in time. But you can't change the infocards if there's no NPC faction. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - Jinx - 05-13-2009 basicly i agree with swift - all shipyards should be huge - but compared to the vanilla ones, this one looks gigantic. so i voted for smaller and 2 yards - ( but it won t be changed - bit too late to modify a system again ) - in the end, it doesn t really matter. - its a good station, its not bugged and it does its job. only concern is that system modders and those that make a system wishlist want bigger and bigger and BIGGER stuff all the time - thats why the original vanilla stuff looks so low-tech and dwarfed compared to our guard systems already. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - Markam - 05-13-2009 its really too big, in such a dangerous location in the middle of an asteriod field (which is the most obvious flaw). and swift wishes all shipyards to be as big, modding vanila is not really kosher for the devs, so it has to be scaled by other shipyards, Southampton builds a house's ENTIRE FLEET, hundreds, or even thousands of capital ships, and only has 3 docks, most other shipyards have 2, except for that alaska shipyard for the LN, but its stated that LN has the largest fleet. And just what is the IMG? is it a house? frankly, not at all, just a mining corp, no larger than say, GMG. Why would they need (one of) the largest shipyards in the entire universe? its frankly taken too far, and whats to say there wont be another IMG shipyard in tau 39? I dont like mindless expansion of factions into some sort of super faction, its really silly. Either the Southampton is OORP for producing so much with so little, or this shipyard is OORP for producing so little with so much. IMG doesnt even use a large amount of its own transports to ship its products, it uses Gateway, a Bretonian company. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - Shaka - 05-13-2009 The IMG are considered to be one of the predominant ship building factions in Sirius, and as such, I feel we are entitled to have at least one larger shipyard. It is our only shipyard. Yes, it is bigger than most any shipyards, but that's a function of it's relatively recent construction. A lot of, actually almost all, house shipyards are described as being quite old in their infocards. The IMG, striving to construct a state of the art station, built a large shipyard. Apologies on system modder phallic waving, but are you suggesting that we shouldn't exercise our creativity? Yes vanilla bases are much much more simplistic, and generally speaking are not as attractive to the eye when compared to what we are making. Fine, but the same argument that be used to compare your moddels to the vanilla ones. Not that I am complaining, but we all have a right to work outside the box, and we are all guilty of getting carried away. The Size of Aland Shipyard (Omega 3) - Niezck - 05-13-2009 Just for note, Igiss designed this shipyard. |
