An idea which should not be too hard to do I guess.
Switch the Local chat and system chat, so that anything you write goes to local chat by default. And you would have to use /s to talk to whole system.
I think it would be a most welcome feature and would help system-wide chat to promote RP even more since most of the garbage would be heard only by those near you. Also most of the RP discussion are done within local range. Why involve the whole system for it?
What do you think? Doable and welcome or not?

Anyways... Yes, this is a great idea, but I'm afraid that it would either take a magical FLhook plugin, or source code. As far as i know, /l is a FLhook function.
Maybe we could get a word from the almighty Cannon about this?

Amen. Or at least make it so you can select "Local Chat" in the chat menu now, like you can select System or Group or even PM. Please, it's annoying to type /l each time when all you're doing is talking in Local.

Only one little issue with this. It makes admin work a little harder, in that quite a lot of the time you sit listening to system chat to see how a situation prgresses to see if you need to step in. Although I can see the positive effects of it.

Well, I suppose that if a plugin were written to do this, it could include a feature that allows Admins to see all local chat in the system, as if it were broadcast system wide.

I fully support this as well.
Best would be to include something to ease the work for the Admins as well, though I suspect that could be hard to do.
In roleplay, this should make a lot more sense, as broadcasting your communications to an entire system should be something reserved to special circumstances (such as police warning all lawfuls in system, activists broadcasting their propaganda etc.).
After all, you can only hear NPCs that are within your close range - would be quite bothersome to have an entire system of comms on your ears.

I think it's the third time someone brings this up. I'd guess that by now, Cannon has reflected upon the idea, and whether he can do anything about it, we shall wait and see. It's indeed a good call, but it's been only a little time since an identical thread like this appeared.
