ID-locking IFFs and undercover systems - jammi - 01-31-2025
A revised rephack system has been introduced for the next server restart that will only allow you to run the IFF that corresponds to the ID you mount. This means gameplay mechanics will now replace rules on IFF use.
Generic IDs (Freelancer, Pirate, Smuggler) will be unaffected. Some factions have exemptions to this restriction, allowing them to fly a different IFF from a specified list.
Initially, these have been applied exclusively to Intelligence and Wild IDs as follows:
- BIS: BMM, Bowex, Cryer, Gateway, IMG, Planetform, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate.
- GNI: EFL, GMS, IDF, IMG, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate.
- KOI: Kishiro, IMG, Samura, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate.
- LSF: Ageira, Cryer, DSE, Synth, Universal, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate.
- MND: ALG, DHC, IMG, Imperial, Kruger, Synth, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate
- Order: IMG, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate
- Technocracy: IMG, Zoner, Freelancer, Pirate
- Wild: Zoner, Freelancer Pirate.
- KuWild: As above + KOI.
A new system to block docking on specified factions / bases by ID has also been deployed. This means House Intel groups and Wild still won't be able to dock on bases they shouldn't have access to (pirate bases for Intel, Freelancer/Zoner bases for Wild) despite having the IFF.
This system is likely to be expanded and formalised going forward so players have reasonable expectations on how to play and interact with "undercover" characters.
Official Factions are likely to be able to perk request expanded cover IFFs in the future. Roleplay/events/story may also provide a pretext for extended cover IFFs.

Intelligence IDs still unable to dock on pirate bases. Probably for the best.
Oh well, at least my “corp security” LSF chars are unaffected. Also give Order ALG IFF too, for the funnies?

I will repost the suggestion I made on discord - sirian house intels should have the BHG IFF available to them as well, while the GNI should probably have the Corse IFF also.
Additionally, I don't think it'd be much of an issue if the Order was allowed to run IFFs of their partner factions - Bundschuh, BD, LH, GMG(?). It won't make that much of a practical difference, but it'd be a nice flavour option for those who want to play embedded liasons or somesuch.

This is a really cool change. Looks like something that will really benefit the quality of Intel ID roleplay, now that you can make actual undercover chars without worrying about a sanction. kudos

I think the three Wild IFFs should have the intel IFFs for their respective regions.
Also I think Freelancers should be stuck with Freelancer IFF, Pirates should be stuck with pirate IFF, and Smugglers should probably also have Freelancer IFF. I firmly believe that NoFFs are a cancer on the HUD and should be SRP only.

If it's a OF that's special enough to need one, what that OF actually needs is its own IFF, not NoFF.

Finally.
I always assumed this wasn't done because changing the rep of every faction on every ID would be a ton of work, but since this appears to have come out of a conversation just last night, I guess you found a way to auto script it somehow.
