A certain someone came to visit me yesterday at Heisenberg. It was nice for Revenant to do so. Cologne is not the most convinient system to reach and she's such a busy bee. Whilst it was nice to briefly catch up, Revenant had sought me out with a commission in mind. Note to self. Attach the comms data to this log entry so you don't forget it later.

Her request is most fa...fascinating and, whilst the intrigue of the matter itself would have been enough to catch my attention, the offer of credits adds to the appeal. I'm loath to make cu...currency a focus, yet such funds would pay the way for sorely needed equipment for the Ontario Site Survey. That settles the matter... Omicron Minor, here we come! Perhaps we can make time for that azurite reactor too.

Alas, Revenant's need for see...secrecy means I cannot reach out to my favourite Aegis pilot. A shame, she's good company. She'd probably be relieved... no, this must be done without help. Whilst I'm wary of this 'bigger picture', if this site does indeed have a role to play in the Pulse an-... was not the... similar in nature to... Most intruiging indeed~

OM-2A Survey Parameters:
  • Reach Omicron Minor
  • Survey the Alien Jump Gate
  • Acquire samples for compositional analysis
  • Return to Laboratory 13 with samples
  • Carry out analysis of jump gate material and survey data

The initial survey of site OM-2A has be...been carried out and, thankfully, s...somehow undisturbed. We crossed paths with a few vessels of note on our way into the Omicrons. None enquired on the Solace's destination and the jaunt from Freeport Eleven to the site was unchallenged. I expected inteference or some sort of interjection by the locals yet... well, I shall not complain of a smooth ride. The illusion of a smooth ride, at the least.

Laying eyes upon the site once more, after all these years, brought sorrow to my heart. To think I once saw it standing proud, regal, amongst the cosmos. A marker of a civilisation immense and powerful. A monumental glimpse into the window of possibilty. A gateway both literal and figurative. A revelation brought to ruin. If such devastation can be wrought to the creations of those so much more advanced than ourselves, then we must proceed with gusto.

It is a fate we, as a species, must deny with all our heart and energy. With the implications that this destruction was wrought from a Pulse similar to that experienced in Ontario, this research is all the more pressing.

Such destruction does come with it benefits. The damage caused to the outer structure of this gate allows for the scanning of the integral structure of the object, as well as the opportunity for sampling the materials held within. There are some potentials that shall be explored and, if needed, accounted for during analysis. The object appears to have a closed surface, but there is little guarantee the materials within are the same without.

What if the interior material has degraded in some form now that it is exposed? Is there the possibility space-borne microbes have contaminated the samples? Afterall... we coat our ships in protective layers against such creatures. No reason to think the architect's of this gate did not think to do something similar.

Speculation and conjecture. We shall find out soon enough. Material samples were placed into bio-hazard containment and there they shall stay until further analysis is carried out.

There is another object twinned to this parent gate. It's shape and structure bare a resemblance to alien objects I have once seen before. If memory serves me right, then I believe they were capable of firing energetic projectiles. Memory is such a fickle thing however, and with a lack of historic data and records examination shall begin anew.

Most curiously, the structure features a leak of a gaseous substance known as "Azurite Gas". This leak produces a steady stream of this gas that collects around the structure. When the density of this gas reaches a certain threshold, refraction of light from the system's solar bodies causes a particularly bewitching visual effect. I suspect local groups are aware of the leaks presence - there are storage facilities in the system that I suspect may have tanks full of this gas. Regardless, samples of this twin structure's materials were taken and stored securely. It would seem remiss not to collect samples of this gas whilst present.

The journey homeward bound was as uneventful and unchallenged as the journey outwards. With the intention of returning via Valravn Citadel, the Solace and I sailed past the stars of Omicron Alpha and through the Tau's. Such a beautiful part of Sirius. I gaze upon those white clouds as long as my retina's can bear the strain, and it is never without regret.

With some of the cylinders of Azurite gas deposited to Valravn, I've returned back to Heisenberg eager to begin the work of compositional analysis. I shall need to be studiously cautious in getting these samples to the lab. Perhaps doing so during a low-traffic window with a couple friendly words to the air control could get the clear path to-and-fro needed. Oh, I cannot wait! Let us peer into the heart of the matter and see what truths peer back!

Compositional analysis on secondary samples taken from site OM-2A has begun, and it became clear that concerns about the contamination of materials were well-founded. It appears that microbial organisms that proliferate the environment surrounding OM-2A are metallo-philes (a term used in lieu of something more appropriate, as you shall see).

Many sub-samples have exhibited surface features suggestive of either roving colonies of organisms. Rarer were the points at which is appears the organisms have compromised the outer integrity of the material. In these cases, it appears the consumption has had an inward trajectory that creates a defeat reminiscent to a deep canyon.

Upon identifying the presence of these microbes, I have employed extensive decontamination procedures within lab 13 and have taken to a strict regime when handling these samples for analysis. I would like to think they would not consume their way through Heisenberg... but one cannot be too careful.

Exhibited in the prior imagery is an oscillation in lux levels across the surface of the material. The uniformity of this oscillation across the material suggests that this is not an irregularity or deformity in the sample but instead a characteristic of the structure of the material. This was further explored by utlising a transmission electron microscope, combined with x-ray diffraction methods as a supplement to enhance rendered visual quality. By examining the scatter patterns of electrons fired through a sliver of material, and converting that data into a visual representation, one can examine the structure of the material.

Results indicate that the interior materials of OM-2A are, at a molecular level, comprised of interlaced planes of an unusually defined structure that, frankly, fails to match to any known composition on database. I have never seen a material like this before... at least, not in use beyond the manufacture of miniscule scientific curiosities. For a material like thisto be employed at such a grand scale, constructing a super-structure such as a gate, suggest a vastly superior understanding of the material sciences and their application.

Curiously, the employment of spectroscopy and evolved gas methods suggests that the material is infused with traces of A6 variant Azurite gas molecular structures. It's hypothesised these trace elements are a result of the structures proxmity to OM-2A-1 and the source of azurite creating a pocket of space that subsumes the gate structure. Further analysis will be required to explore any potential interaction caused by the presence of A6 Azurite on the material composition of the gate structure.
