[Infocard] Cloaking device names and descriptions are incorrect/misleading - hribek - 09-29-2025

Type: Infocard
Bug: Cloaking device names and descriptions are incorrect/misleading

Reproduction Steps:
  • Look here in server configs https://discoverygc.com/gameconfigpublic/cloak.cfg
  • Look at ship list in DarkStat
  • Look at cloak infocards
  • Look at advanced equipment guide here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=200551

  • See that it is a giant mess:
  • The cloak names are non descriptive
  • The cloak descriptions are non descriptive and vague. What is "transport ships with large cargo capacities" in MkIII description, when Barge actually uses MkII-A?
  • Liners are classed as capital ships, so they use MkII-A
  • Hegemon is a transport with massive cargo hold, but uses MkII-A (because it is classed as capital). Something similar could be said about the Bulwark.
  • MkII cloak description is a flat out lie ... "gunboats and some transports class ships" when it is actually "gunboats and cruisers"

Suggestion: Make it simple, like: "Supported ship class: Gunboat/Cruiser/Capital/Transport". Each ship has its class listed in the infocard using exactly those words.

If you can, please rename the cloaking devices but that's not super necessary. Fixing the descriptions is most important in my opinion.

Advanced equipment guide on forums is not in scope of this bug report.

I am not even mentioning any sort of balancing questions here because this is reported as an infocard bug. Let's stick to fixing those and making ingame equipment names and descriptions fit for purpose, please.

Infocards for cloaks has always been a pain point. They do need to be overhauled to make them perspicuous.

I would like to understand why it was "always" this way. Is this difficult to fix? Do I need to write up the infocards?
