Mission Commission: Misguided Liberty - Mission Commission - 10-09-2025

Mission: Misguided Liberty

Mission Provider: Kusari Office of Intelligence
Type: Interception
Repetition: This mission can only be completed once [A MD in this thread from your characters pov is required per player that wants to claim a roserush engine for completing the bonus objective, this can be done by a total of five different players before the roserush engine becomes unavailable].
Offered Reward: 2'000'000 credits + upon completion of the bonus objective a Roserush engine [one per participating player in the arrest up to 5]
Difficulty: Hard

Description: As you are surely aware the Houses of Kusari and Liberty have recently made statements accusing the other of plotting a clandestine operation in the Galileo system. While neither House has provided any evidence to the public to support the statements, the Galileo system was soon flooded by war vessels of both sides. Cooler heads prevailed and Kusari vessels returned to Shikoku rather than risking all out war.

Now however, the Kusari Office of Intelligence believes they have managed to track down what they believe to be an undercover LSF vessel. According to an informant the vessel is posing as a Samura ship, going around supplying criminal organizations with imported weapons.

Your job is to locate and intercept this vessel. Interrogate its crew and, if guilty, take them into custody by escorting them to Heavens Gate. KOI operatives will be waiting to take them off your hands when you get to the base.

Expect heavy resistance, local criminals might not be fond of Liberty but it's unlikely they'll say no to free weapons.

Stay frosty out there.

RE: Mission Commission: Misguided Liberty - Mission Commission - 10-11-2025

// repetition has been updated to make the proces for claiming the bonus objective reward clearer.

RE: Mission Commission: Misguided Liberty - Mission Commission - 10-11-2025

With the destruction of the convoy the lawful side managed to capture several escape pods, though the ships mute captain managed to avoid this tragic fate, the prisoners were taken to Heavens Gate for questioning. Meanwhile the Kusari underworld managed to destroy one of the undercover operatives, preventing them from being captured while also seeing Sukoshi.Akuma safely evacuated from the clutches of the Naval Forces.

As a result both sides are considered to have completed their 'bonus objective' conditions and participants can claim their rewards accordingly via a report MD as mentioned in the "Mission Objective and Rules"

Konbanwa,

Your informant was correct.
After receiving your request, I managed to gather a handful of vessels on active duty for a subtle sweep of several corners of our space. Hardly the best assortment of vessels for such a task but we made work of it.

One of our units managed to track down a convoy consisting of a Scarab-class transport and two Locust-class escort vessels flashing Samura colors as they emerged the Hiyo Cloud en route to the New Tokyo Gate.
  • Akuma.Inu - Scarab-class Transport with approximately 1300 crates of Daumann Side Arms
  • Sukoshi.Akuma & Koakuma - Two Locust-class snubcrafts featuring Bretonian made Starrail-type weaponry and Rheinland origin light missiles, as well as a cloaking device each.

The suspects were uncannily amateurish in their attempts to pretend being actual Samura merchants flying on a contract to Deshima Station. Below you will find relevant excerpts of the conversations taking place over the course of the mission. Please note that the Captain of the Akuma.Inu was allegedly mute and nobody else on board supposedly could communicate either. It is a shame this mute managed to slip away in the end, I would have loved to assist in loosening their tongue.

I will now run down the events in brief manner:

Whilst trying to get the suspects to cooperate, multiple Blood Dragon and Chrysanthemum contacts would enter the perimeters proximity. Hurling insults and nonsense as per usual. Hell broke loose once the transport made it through the Jump Gate and the criminal elements decided to get rid of it. Both its escort and the vessel itself made no attempts to actually hit their adversaries with gunfire. Following a dispersion of the enemy units through our heavier assets, we surrounded the LSF vessel in protective manner but the emerge of two cloaked Dragon Gunboats perfectly synced with an attempted breakthrough by the enemy snubcrafts opened a brief window for the LSF vessels to slip away and rush down the trade lanes.

One escort vessel stood behind at Shinagawa, as you can hear from the transcript casually chatting with this mercenary for hire employed by the Dragons. A Libertorian, no less. They did not attempt to stop my pursue and I managed to lay an ambush on the vessel in the Saiun Cloud, suspecting them to try and rush back across the border to Liberty passing by usual smuggler routes, now that their cover got blown.

The vessel emerged but with one escort unit already gone missing, we lost contact to the Koakuma and cannot confirm its whereabouts. It is highly likely they found refuge with the Dragons elsewhere. Given my lead on the criminal elements was slim and it was becoming increasingly apparent that it was actually us who ran into an ambush within the Saiun, I gave the order to destroy the LSF transport. Parts of the weaponry could be destroyed on spot, whilst some might haven been extracted by hostile entities during the resulting clash. The second escort vessel managed to slip away towards the Shiun Cloud, presumably having crossed the border to Liberty by now. Ultimately, I had to abandon ship during the clash together with the blackbox. An Ohashi dispatch wing luckily collected me among other survivors, including several crewman of the transport.

I am overstepping my competences here but I urge the KOI to make their move. Not through simplistic means like Side Arms but drastic, yet deniable measures. If you require someone with experience of fighting far behind enemy lines, inform me. And keep your credits. I serve my nation, not my pockets. I will not mind your other ways of compensation though.

SENDER: Yaso Yamanosuke
RECIPIENT: KOI Mission Control
SUBJECT: Libertonian Infiltration
ENCRYPTION : KURC-A-19#21-BE0ATA

Commanding Officer of the Nozarashi, Yaso Yamanosuke reporting.
As per instructed, we have intensified patrols and extended the net throughout Kusari in order to catch some Gaijin Koi. And we have.
In the Honshu system, as we were exiting the New Tokyo > Honshu Jump Gate, we encountered the main fleet operatives in discussions with the possible targets.
Their exact location was 5K away from the Trade Lanes, towards the Hiyo Cloud.
The main fleet operatives were 4: 2 cruisers, 1 gunboat and 1 fighter craft: IKN-Fubuki; IKN-Rice.One; [KNF]Sk.Umakai.Miwa; Tansho.
The targets were 3: 1 Frigate and 2 fighter craft: Akuma.Inu; Sukoshi.Akuma; Koakuma.
Their frigate was carrying 1300 units of Daumann Side Arms; while their fighters were with empty cargo holds. None of their equipment was of Libertonian provenience at a first scan; though the escorts had Bretonian Star Rails and Rheinlander Feldgeist missile; along with cloaking devices on both ships. Thats a varied equipment loadout and quite expensive as well.
The targets were flying Syrius Civilian line ships - A Scarab and 2 Locusts; but they were pinging with Samura IFF.
Normally, I would've taken the ship onwards to our destination, but the gathering of onlookers, Freelancers, Blood Dragons and Golden Chrysanthemums, was increasing. I couldn't abandon my fellow servicemen to be outnumbered and killed by those miscreants.
After some tense negotiations with the pilot of the frigate, which seemed to be a mute, they were escorted towards New Tokyo.
In New Tokyo, the Blood Dragons and Golden Crysanthemums had enough numbers to challenge us; which they did. Having brought 2 Cruisers along with a considerable fighter escort they engaged us. Our targets tried to escape in the chaos which ensued and they made some poor attempts to stall, either by feigning ignorance or just playing dumb; on a personal note, I don't think they were playing at all. The Akuma. Inu, the frigate, seeing as it was targeted by the Blood Dragons, managed to slip away towards New Tokyo in the commotion.
I took the ship and gave chase while the main fleet stayed to clean up the scum of Kusari from the space. Having one of its escort cut the trade lane, it managed to slip away into the Kyushu system. In the meantime, the main fleet returned from their clean up in New Tokyo. We extended the net, having 2 ships follow the frigate in Kyushu and the rest of us moving towards Shikoku; betting they were headed for the Freeport or the Casino.
When I reached the Shikoku system, there was a main fleet ship already waiting at the regular smuggler route, at the Kyushu jump hole - the =ROT=KNS-Imperial.
And not long after, the targets emerged from the jump hole.
What ensued were more feeble attempts at stalling; but once the consequences of anymore attempts to stall, escape or hinder in any way the KNF operation were detailed, they began complying.
By this time, the entire main fleet task force was assembled, unfortunately somehow followed by quite a large gathering of criminal elements from Kusari, to be more presice, 8 ships, fighters and bombers; along with 2 Freelancers that were somehow there - Jackhammer and Kerilor.
When the criminals decided they could afford the casualties to engage our ships, they once again did it.
Despite my fierce protests and attempts to escort the frigate out of the combat situation for interrogation, the main fleet leading officer decided it was a safer option for us to destroy the frigate and the weapons.
Since there was no time for me to invoke rank by seniority, due to the pressing attack from the Blood Dragons and that one Golden Crysanthemum, the decision being made already by my colleagues to open fire on the frigate was decisive. Seeing the Blood Dragons already took out one of the target escort ships, I ordered the crew to open fire on the frigate.
The frigate was destroyed; with the bulk of the weapons ending up in our cargo hold - we managed to tractor 950 units.
As per the remaining units, I can account only for 24 units which were tractored by Kerilor - a Freelancer Big Dragon ship - who then tried to escape without anyone noticing.
I noticed and I gave chase until they docked on the Noshima Freeport. Not wanting to endanger the lives of my crew by docking and deploying a retrieval party in that cesspit; I turned the ship around and secured what was salvaged of this operation - denied the criminals their guns.
I have the following questions and concerns related to this operation:
- Why and how did the main fleet ship =ROT=KNS-Imperial know where to be to intercept the frigate as it was making its escape route via Kyushu>Shikoku smuggling route? I was maintaining watch at the Tokyo>Shikoku gate until the rest of the KNF ships joined and we decided to extend the net. When I reached the smugglers route, the ship was already there.
- Why were the main fleet ships so adamant on the destruction of the frigate and its escorts? Has the main fleet been infiltrated or are they traitors on the Libertonian payroll? The destruction of the frigate and its escort ship was a way to silence in case of capture?
- How did they get the codes for Samura Identification on their ships?
- How did they know the smuggler routes through Kusari? - either they have a guide or they're operating here for quite longer than desired.
- These freelancer ships and their operatives - Jackhammer and Kerilor - seem to have information about the weapons - since they were quite present during the encounter. They should be apprehended before they can escape.

I will be taking the Nozarashi and its cargo to Heavens Arch for analysis. Maybe some clues maybe found in the salvaged cargo.
Captain of the Nozarashi,
Yaso Yamanosuke.

Mission Report: Misguided Liberty
Filed by: Captain of =ROT=KNS-Imperial

Konnichiwa, commanders,

There's not much to add on what was already reported. With the results of the operation being satisfactory, let's see what we can improve on.

This incursion evidences the lengths and ingenuity our enemies are employing against the Empire. Also, it is more than obvious that our local terrorists, the Dragons and their cohorts, are well informed of our movements, and won't think twice to take advantage of any situation.

At the outset of the engagement, Blood Dragons cruiser was engaged and destroyed, removing a major threat to the task force and allowing limited control of the battlefield.

As of such, we realized the encounter wasn't going in our favor, so the order to destroy the Akuma.Inu was given. Its destruction and the recovery of some escape pods are the single rays of light from this dark day. The Imperial fleet took considerable damage to secure this small victory, if you will.

Recommendations:
  • KOI is advised to dispatch more assets within Shikoku and beyond, in order to deter such infiltrators.
  • Imperial Navy patrols within Shikoku will be reinforced, while a second quick reaction force shall be established.
  • Prepare for war with Liberty.

Captain =ROT=KNS-Imperial, out.

Esteemed commanders, it is my duty to bring to your tables this report.

After a few incidents were reported nearby the Shikoku - Galileo border regarding suspicious ships and exchanges of fire between patrols of our great Empire and the treacherous Republic of Liberty my ship was put on high alert, ready for action on a moment's notice.

Starting our mission, we were greeted by a gaijin Hunter, callsign Jackhammer, apparently enthusiastic to try and stop smugglers. I had no idea how he became aware of the leaked reports, but it was to become clear a bit later.

The Fubuki departed from New Tokyo and made way to Hokkaido where a couple of GC patrols were sighted. There were no signs of any infiltrators.

Soon we received reports of suspicious activity in the Honshu system. We made fast for the Jump Gate and found a standoff between our forces and a squadron of terrorist Dragon and GC ships. Their fleet included at least one cruiser supported by several snubs.

Our forces apparently stopped an allegedly Samura convoy transporting some Daumann armaments and some prototype weapon turrets. But the captain of the Akuma Inu tried to play deaf. The convoy was soon taken to our custody and we engaged the Dragon Cruiser, callsign Fist.of.Chugoku, and quickly dispatched it in support of KNS Imperial.

Meanwhile the Dragon and GC snubcraft continued to harass the convoy that was making their way through New Tokyo. Naturally, we joined in escort and provided a flak screen to the detained transports.

At one point a couple of Dragon cruisers showed up, making a diversion that the Akuma Inu exploited to flee the scene.

The fleeing transport and its escorts were later located in the vicinity of Kyushu Jump Hole in Shikoku.

While the captain was being interrogated and instructed to resume course for New Tokyo, it was becoming increasingly apparent the whole thing was a ruse as the Dragon and GC forces started to gather in preparation to assault our ships that were having their scanning abilities limited due to interference from the nebula.

The order was given to destroy the Akuma Inu and deny the cargo to the terrorist forces, which was done swiftly and efficiently.

Jackhammer protested, apparently trying to make us believe he had romantical involvement with either the captain of the Akuma Inu or one of their escorts.

I moved the Fubuki to the flanks to protect the withdrawal of our heavier assets. Unfortunately, soon we were assailed by large numbers of Dragon and GC snubcraft. The Fubuki took a mauling, and just as we managed to clear the nebula, our reactor started showing signs of instability.

The order was given to plot a course towards the sun, leave only a skeleton crew aboard, evacuate the rest and a distress call sent to the standing Myoko and Nagasaki flight patrols.

The Fubuki was later recovered and towed to the Kure drydock. It will spend a considerable time getting its systems overhauled, and I intend to use the downtime to brush up on my tactics training.

Unfortunately due to heavy damage no visual logs were recovered, only textual transcripts.

In Service of the Emperor
