Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - ArgAdis - 10-24-2025 Subject: Insurance Sub-subject: Ideas about how they works Greetings, When a ship blown, we respawn at the last place we docked. We respawn with our ship intact minus all equipments (not mounted) and cargoes. In my mind (or RP), I would like to think that it's the result of some kind of ship insurance. IRL those kind of things worked. We paid monthly or annually, and we got reimbursed if something happened. So... I would like to ask suggestions about how they should work in Sirius. Some kind of rules for my RP. Thank you for the responses, suggestions and discussions. RE: Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - Sombs - 10-24-2025 Despite this being a medium RP server, this in particular is left to the interpretation of each player. Most people don't acknowledge the defeat of their own ship or wave it off. Since powergaming isn't allowed, there is no enforced consequence for getting blown up. If you want to make it part of your roleplay, first of all keep in mind that your ship exploding is just a representation, not necessarily what actually happens. There is a reason the default kill message is "put out of action", as dead is not always dead. Ships get knocked out, disarmed, disabled, malfunctioned, etc, and the only person deciding on what happened to your ship is you. With that in mind, yeah, you can totally play it out as insurance case! You can always roleplay that your pilot/crew didn't make it, or made it out in a rescue pod or is still stuck on the wreck of the predecessor. Most people just have the same people always survive their crashes, so that is a welcome change of pace. Insurance - in the most prominent case that would be Interspace Commerce - would likely cover a part of a pirated cargo hold if the cargo was insured, and if the destruction of a ship was the result of the pilot's/captain's neglect, refuse to make any payments. Would be fun to see such things played out a bit more! Would be fun to see such things played out a bit more! Thank you for the response... I know want I wanted now (I think?). I'll make other character that served as an Insurance Agency employee. In the RP, the only thing that was insured was the ship. Every time there was an "accident", I'll transfer an equal amount of money to when I sold the ship, to the Insurance Agency. But... I don't know how should I use the money transfered to the Insurance Agency for... Any ideas what that transfered money used for? Or how's that work? (Related to Insurance RP thing) Thank you again. RE: Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - Lolipop12 - 10-25-2025 How about, you create an insurance company and you do adds in the sections comm/news? Those interested could for example give a x amount and when their ships got destroyed, they will contact you, tell you the bill of, for example, 10k, you transfert 10k. RE: Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - Stewgar - 10-25-2025 To my knowledge, there has never been a long term and successful Interspace Commerce/Insurance roleplay especially in an official capacity. It's one of the nuiances like fuel, food, and water for the pilot that seems to be more implied than hard coded. I'm getting to the point where I need to stop being surprised by what can be done with Freelancer. You coders that are doing the work of the Gods are simply incredible. If this is something that could be implemented into FLHook (or similar software, I might be aging myself), that could be something. An IC faction can receive payments from entities and have balances withdrawn based on different coverage automatically or through admin support. If you are serious about beginning an insurance or Interspace Commerce roleplay, DM me your ideas and I'll see what I can do to help. RE: Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - Ashyur - 10-26-2025 you'd see an interspace commerce exchange forum account always active on forums, it tracks players list, offers insurance based on systems traveled by ships while in-game as an example: player buys an insurance for 20 systems(price around 10k per system), if he's attacked before insurance expires he'd be paid x amount to cover cargo cost (based on 4k-5k cargo capacity) insurance can be bought from a forum thread (using a format ) , from a discord bot (you'd need to transfer funds before buying using commands ), also can be seen on actually had a static GitHub page but it no longers for some reason...ooops I never went through with the idea because my in-game credits were spent on others ideas, if you want to carry on let me know RE: Need a lot of ideas about "How Insurance works in Sirius?". - ArgAdis - 10-30-2025
Thank you for all replies. I've got general ideas (or RP reasons) when an "accident" befall me. As of now, I'd like to think that;
As for the said entity RP, It will be determined in the future.
I'm doing all of this thread was only to makes me stays motivated to play and involved in the community. If lots of you have any suggestions please posted it. Thank you again. |
