Elite Dangerous always had an interesting formula, too bad it's yet another scam just like Star Citizen.

having a gameplay it's not a scam, however having the ability to play alone or only with the group of friends you want that's an issue as universe it's quite big
support for PS5, having a 10 years old CPU, now that's a scam and it's normal to drop support for it if you think about it, we'll see in 2027or maybe 2026 if ps6 would bring it back or not ...

I do not think it's a scam at all
You may buy certain ships or buy cosmetics (paints, etc), and that's it
Everything else, including those things that you can buy with real money, is also available with credits.
Maybe one or 2 ships are not, and that's because they are just released.

If selling copies that can arbitrarily be destroyed later on by a publisher isn't fraudulent or scammy behavior then I don't know what is.
There's a big reason why you'll never see the same kind of shenanigans with this game that you got with Freelancer throughout the last two decades; the developer pulls the plug and every single copy is a bunch of worthless zeroes and ones, even though you paid for it (many paid full price). There was a campaign flying around to outlaw this practice because it's technically illegal in many countries, I wish victims paid more attention about it than money on these games that will be dead in a decade.

I spend 3euro for game and 12euro for a ship (not enough time to do initial grind, plus it's a nice skin )
this isn't one of those expensive games that you'd lose access in the near future
it isn't released to users to test since they don't want to hire beta testers (like vampire masquerade bloodlines 2) or star citizen with only 1 system for 10 years or whatever it went for ...
