Ignored for too long - darthmop1 - 12-02-2025

Hi everybody,

The Origin
I am day one Freelancer gamer and still have the original CD and case. Probably the only physical copy kept this much cherrished next to X-Wing Alliance. I do fondly recall the time reading all the gaming magazine's reports about the game's development progress and when the trial finally dropped, man I wished I could just fly over the edge of the map to reach something beyond the locked jump gate. I was totally sold on this game and on day one release, my best pal and I went to the electronics store to pick up our copies.

The Prime
In the early years after the release, I have taken pleasure playing Evolutions 1.28 online, participating in a German speaking clan roleplaying a Rheinland Faction. After decreasing activities, I have left the server back then and stumbled upon the multi-franchise mod called WTS-World. I began just as a participating player, then did some simple roleplaying on forums and ingame. Back in the days I have been invested into 3D-modeling and some graphics work, which gave me the chance to contribute to the forums with images and renders and to the mod itself such as a few ship and cockpit models, retextures and even the intro. Sadly, even that mod eventually had to shut down one day. Who knows, perhaps someone will find me here again or vice versa.

The Hiatus
Freelancer has never been forgotten. I still played the singleplayer from time to tlme. Even Everspace, Chorus, you name it, were great games each on their own. Still, no space game could ever enchant me the same way. GoG still couldn't figure out how to resurrect the game and all hopes for a remaster or remake died. All I could think about is how little knew about this gem of a game and why most people will never do.

The Smoulder
Now towards the end of 2025 picking up Freelancer again for another singleplayer run. Just a couple of days ago watching a rewind video from the german gaming magazine Gamestar, also mentioning the Discovery Mod, I thought I will give this one a try now.
I want to linger some time in the world of Sirius, a very familiar one, yet very different and enjoy new systems and lore. Looking forward to it.

It doesn't take a blaze to keep warm, just a cozy smoulder.

This was also the reason I'm on this experience (plus the fancy posts and stories).

So,
welcome,
and
see you out there!
