Biography Born to a typical aristocratic upper middle class family on Stuttgart, Leopold Katz experienced an upbringing very typical to most that enter Military service. Academically adequate in most regards, and excelling in very few - Katz followed an unremarkable progression through schooling and entered service as a sponsored officer-cadet on board the Tirpitz class RNC-Danube during the Liberty-Rheinland war. Over the course of several years, Katz rose through the ranks with a reputation for dependability and resourcefulness - earning several citations for meritorious conduct by his sponsor and captain - ultimately taking command of the RNC-Danube by 836AS. With the outbreak of the Imperial Coup, the RNC-Danube was one of several loyalist ships in the Koblenz formation to thwart an attempted mutiny by Imperialists - with Katz successfully maintaining control of his vessel and regrouping with Battlegroup Bayern to maintain the Thuringia Defense Perimeter. Through an initiative to mask Federalist deployments and ship numbers, Katz's RNC-Danube was rechristened the 'RNC-Walkure' under the BDM Marinekommando, and tasked as a quick response fighter carrier and front-line fleet tender. From the outbreak of the Imperial Coup to the final Siege of Thuringia, the Walkure under Katz participated in several dozen fleet actions, over a hundred smaller engagements, scored over 40 confirmed capital ship kills, 23 combat exfiltration support citations, and 4 citations for meritorious service. Over the course of his service, Katz developed something of a reputation for a degree of recklessness for his eagerness to exploit weaknesses in enemy formations to commit in engagements in excess of standing orders - though never to the degree of reprimand, and rarely unsuccessfully. Buro psychoanalysts believe this to stem from some measure of survivor's guilt originating from INCIDENT REPORT 8270313, but has been determined to not be a liability for service.
