Right, so the Bretonian transport shipline is named after different breeds of horse, right? Well, it goes something like this:
  • Clydesdale (Freighter - medium sized draught horse)
  • Percheron (mid size Transport - slightly larger draught horse)
  • Shire (large sized Transport - largest breed of horse)
  • Shetland (massive Train - a pony)

Right. Shetland. There's a slight thing about this. All of the previous three are draught horses, the kind that drag heavy stuff like goods around. The Shetland however, is a pony. An incredibly small one at that. It's weird that the largest ship of the line, is named after a pygmie of a horse.

Me and Husher were talking about this in the Bowex chat and we found some alternatives. The Destrier and Courser, both of which being war horses. The thing that makes them useable however, is the fact that the Destrier is a major part of the ancestry of the Percheron and Shire breeds, which links it with the series.

If things were to be really picky though, I'd suggest switching the name Shire to the Bretonian Train, to represent it being the biggest around, while the Bretonian Container Transport gets the name Destrier due to it's heavy weapons loadout and still formidable size.

Mind you, I can't see this thread getting much publicity, or anyone caring particually much...

Oh, those other three are horses? Didn't even notice this.
Okay, from looking at it now.... strange. Very strange, indeed.

I see your point and must agree.

The shetland is most certainly not a work-horse and a more suitable name should be found. Unless of course, the name is meant to hold some irony, Freelancer could do with some more light-heartedness.

I'm fairly sure it was more a case of 'Shetland, eh? Yeah, that's a horse, we'll ue that.' Still if you want to go down the joke road, add a bit into the infocard about the irony. I mean FL doesn't seem to do subtle.

Actually, Jamie, you're directly on point with this one.
I've been messing around with Bretonian Transports in Single Player and noticed this.
I thought it was funny, but I think your suggestion would be brilliant, adding Destrier.

So...
Changing the names as outlined in the first post?
