Is it against the rules? - Pinko - 06-17-2009

Hello,

I had an interesting idea for a character: basically, a Corsair civilian, flying in a Legionnaire, under level 40 with a Civilian ID and Corsair Guard IFF.

I don't see anything against it, does it seem like it's a good idea...? (And don't say No it isn't, because you relate to the'Sairs. <.<)

I believe that as long as your level is below 40, you can use a Civilian ID no matter what your IFF is.

On the other hand, the 'Civilian ID' isn't really a 'civilian' from an RP perspective, in my opinion. It's more of a 'Newbie ID' which just exists so that new characters are somewhat protected until they have the credits to get a decent ship and another ID.

You know.... Corsair civilian? Not really sure if there is something like that. It sounds little bit stupid dont you think? Corsairs are in war, and i quess that every Corsair is is their fighter.

But still, why would RPing a reguliar civilian be bad?

Question is, why does a civilian take to space? What with hostiles and environmental hazards, space is a dangerous place...90% of people probably spend their entire time on one base/planet, with only those that can afford/need to ever leaving. If you wanted to play a Corsair or, indeed, any other faction's non combatant member, the faction ID should suit.

Besides, a roving band of Outcasts is liable to blow away any Corsair civilians, no?...which they can't if you're civilian IDed...

well before we all start throwing around lolwuts, maybe you could give us a little RP background on what your trying to do with this character?

my first question would be, how did a civilian gain access to a Corsair Guard IFFed ship?

I was under the impression that a civilian gaining access to a Military ship would be....difficult?

I would like to see how this goes though, it sounds, interesting.

afaik, you can be shot as a civilian if you have IFF.

The goal isn't to be invulnerable, but to be a civilian. And the RP background should come in time.

But, still, a "Corsair civilian" can be represented as a Corsair tagged/IDed ship...probably a transport of some type.

However, "civilian" is a very loose term...most civilians have jobs, which would define their ship choice and role in space...

While technically you can shoot anyone you want - there would be consequences for doing so. In this case - as in ALL cases - the ID is what matters. Which means that if you're a level 60 gunboat, and you see someone with Corsair IFF - even if it's Corsair Guard - you MUST scan for ID. And if he's under level 40 and has civilian ID, then shooting him will be a sanctionable event.

We went through something similar when the HAF and OPG were making underlevel characters in an effort to get each other sanctions. However, it's still quite entirely possible to have an IFF and be an underlevel Civilian, with a civilian ID.

Best rule of thumb - just because it's red, doesn't mean it's dead. Scan first.
