Alright, I noticed an auction for some codenames or armor or whatever a while back. I thought to myself, "Alright, whatever, makes sense" right? But now it appears to be getting out of hand...

Auction: Gallic Gunboat
Infos inside

Auction: Luxury Liner 'Harmony' - 160m
Business Only

Cheap Bowex train auction
70 million!!!!

Thats only from 2 weeks ago, and the list goes on, but I figured I got my point across by now. Now, some of these auctions are okay. Luxury liner - alright...
Codenames - okay... (the 'rare'-nonrarity thing can't be helped)
Armor - sounds good...

Here's where things get nasty. This isn't RP! What kind of Brigand goes about auctioning off his bomber and expecting not to get shot? A Bowex employee auctioning off his company owned Train and saying, "Ohai, my name's Steve. So if anybody asks, you're Steve, okay?"

People selling off Order capital ships and gunboats. People selling Outcast dessies. People selling Gallic House property, a Zoner Juggernaught (maybe plausible), Council military hardware, Liberty cruisers, Red Hessian Gunboats...

And on, and on, and on, and on... Now, my understanding was that the processions of the Stock Market were supposed to be in-RP, yes? Hence Dusty/Athenian every so often poking saying, "No saying, 'ohai, lulz! 2 millz'!" at which point the people in question quickly alter their behaviors. So why the deuce are people being allowed to do clearly ooRP rubbish?

Now, this is not to be confused with scrap sales - that is, breaking down a ship and selling its armor, weapons, etc. That I have no problem with, its these people selling entire ships and seemingly their characters' identities that has me worried.

... Am I the only one who noticed this anomoly?

It does seem rather ridiculous.

That being said, I'm auctioning off the LNS-Tundra, starting price is one billion credits.;)

Auctions: - darthbeck - 06-25-2009

all of my auctions are inRP.
many of the other ones are too.

but i do agree that the moderators should spend 5 minutes or so a day deleating OORP posts.

The posts may be in-RP, but the actual auction isn't.

A captain of a Nimitz isn't going to go and sell his aircraft carrier, or rather the government's, and go take a vacation to Tahiti.

"Sorry, Admiral, my wife says she wanted me back home more than once a year. Yeah... Uh-huh... Alright, well its being sold in the Persian Gulf, so send a rep if you want your chance at getting it. Yeah. Great! Hope to see you there, Admiral. Ah, thank you... I'll tell her you said that... Uh-huh. Okay, see you later Admiral. *click*"

Well, you're in a yes/no situation. I would consider these auctions, especially of ships, to be more of surplus sales from authorized (and maybe unauthorized) sellers.

The funny thing is - you might find the captain of a Russian ship selling it on the black market. It's well known that many ... toys ... have found their way into other hands that way. But to use your example of an American aircraft carrier, well - there was a British aircraft carrier on eBay for a while. There's a guy down in Indianapolis that sells surplus military equipment - from his front yard. I've seen jeeps, trucks, APC's, and once he had a tank wrecker out there.

I actually consider these ship sales to be more along the lines of simple crew transfers. Those things happen quite frequently in real life. What the auction fees do is to provide the 'salaries' for the new crew, maybe some training.

Ever since the ability to 'sell' custom characters because allowed (and if you missed that, you can pay someone to create and rep a ship for you), and more importantly, now that the /movechar command is working (THANK YOU, CANNON, even if I havent used it yet) - this can enable people to get something to try and RP that they may not have done so in the past simply because of the time involved.

For example, I have 3 personal and 6 shared accounts. Between those accounts and characters - I have 1 in one group (PanGal), one in one group (APM), 2 in one group (Harvesters), 1 freelancer - and ALL the rest (13 characters) are part of the BHG|/BHG|Core. So if I decided that it might be fun to RP a pirate or someone in Gallia - or even get an Order character up and going to combat the hordes of Bounty Hunters coming my way - well, I'm either going to have to spend a lot of time that I don't have on doing all the missions and other things - or I can simply 'transfer ownership', do a name-change, and I'm now in business. It's easy to trade and make money - I can do a couple of hours of that and make 60 million. It'd take a heck of a lot longer to rep up an Gallic cruiser.

I have a life outside of freelancer, surprising as that may be to some of you. Wife, kids, grandkids, work, house, pets, and other hobbies (including semi-professional poker player) take up time as well. I'm all for free enterprise and the exchange of goods given for value received.

I see it as a way to put back into people. It gives them stuff...and gives me money to give to others or myself. so.. <shrug> from me really.

*epic headdesk*

Anyways, Agmen, the point I'm trying to make is that it seems like its just people getting bored with their ships and deciding to use the command. If they arranged these sales, that'd be fine - I understand that people don't have hours on end to be spent setting characters up. So really what I'm saying is that these aren't orders or arrangements, these are people who got bored with the ship so they're selling it in an ooRP manner.

There is no RP. All I'm asking for is something like what you stated before, perhaps saying "The person who can offer the highest salary to my crew will have the ship transfered under their command. They want me back at HQ to work intel". Then I'd be happy. But *goes to check* the Order ones, the OC Dessie, the Liberty Cruiser, the Dragon Bomber, and the FL Bomber/Hessian GB all have no RP. Just "Its being sold. Minimum bid is:...".

The one exception on the first page is NerdRage's gunboat, but I only accepted that because of its witty use of an Ebay template.

So, in a nut shell: There is no RP being produced.
If it were a service (i.e. making requests and having them fulfilled) I'd have no problem
Do something to make it interesting

And we'll have no problems.
