Vista 6 User 0 - Edgar - 06-30-2009

First Greetings All,

I have watched a couple friends play the mod and it has driven me to an online search for the game. It arrived. I was happy...

Ok I followed Dboys installation instructions, including all those up to and including direct links, IP addy and ports in shortcut. My antivirus is AVG, it has been shut down along with windows defender, and windows firewall. The firewall was shutdown from windows services.

Game runs, I can even get the full list of servers out there that I don't have a compatable build for...however I can not connect to a single one....

Lol Who do I have to kill, pay, bribe, or donate a limb, or organ to so i to can enjoy discovery 4.85

Thanks in advance

Edgar...

Hopefully will also be known as Cpt Conner Slype =)

First, you say you can see the 'full list of servers' with discovery 4.85 there is only about 5 running it.

Can you see them? Click on them? Are they in blue text?

I loaded the global server list according to Dboys list, so I get quite few servers, though only about 6 or 7 discovery. Those 6 or so are blue and I can select them, I just keep getting the the msg that I can not connect...

If you're using a router-
make sure you have enable port forwarding and open port 2302. If you don't know how to do this, try using this guide:

Also, I believe you have to fully uninstall your antivirus program if it's causing trouble (though I don't remember if AVG is on the 'blacklist' of incompatible antivirus progs or not). So, you might have to decide whether it's worth it to replace your antivirus in order to play the game.

Finally, you should disable the IPv6 (internet protocol) that comes standard with Vista, as Freelancer was designed to run on IPv4. Instructions to do this can be found here:

AVG doesn't work with Freelancer if you have Vista, not even if its' disabled. Uninstall it and your problems should go away. I believe DBoy had a list of anti-virus programs which worked with Freelancer on Vista.

I think the problem's not in AVG or in Freelancer. The problem it's in Vista. The crapiest operating system ever made by human hand/brain.:angry:
I had Vista installed in my laptop and I tried to play FL in it and couldn't. And being patient has I am with software/hardware problems (NOT!!!!) I had 1 of 2 solutions, solve the problem with a hammer and by result no more laptop or format the damn thing, get rid of Vista and install XP (in addiction I made it a dual boot with Ubuntu also). And voil? Freelancer and all Freelancer goodies (companion, fl acount manager, etc....) works without any problem.
So my 2 cents are, get rid of Vista and install Xp if you can. If you can't I'm sorry for you.:(:(

I have Vista running on my laptop, and it handles freelancer just fine...

I have Spyware Doctor as my antivirus, used to have nod 32 but my subscription ran out and I was too cheap to get a new one.

And yes, it is your AVG, and yes, you'll be able to run Vista/AVG/Freelancer..

I'm running AVG here and it works fine. Had to switch from McAfee to avg to get it working.
