Starting out on disco. - Caledones - 07-08-2009 So I've been on this server for about a week now, and I'm starting to get into the hang of RP, the conventions, and what's changed from the vanilla game. Now I need to actually get somewhere. What I'm most troubled about at the moment, is how to raise funds. I've got two (now potentially three) characters. An LPI officer in a liberator, and a low level civilian trader, currently stuck in a Rhino, with a few good trade routes. So, without flaming me, what's your advice? Is hours of powertrading the only way to get on the ladder to success here? Or maybe joining a trader faction? All advice appreciated. Starting out on disco. - Tomtomrawr - 07-08-2009 Hmm, the way I started was one of my dads friends who had recently started (I think it might of been Frozen, but not entirely sure) gave me money. Powertrade, get enough money for a decent transport (maybe a 2000 cargo one) and then do more powertrading. Don't start anymore characters until your funds are together. Make some influential friends in the community. Starting out on disco. - Caledones - 07-08-2009 Okay, a 2000 cargo transport, that gives me a good target to work to. I guess that's what I'll work towards for now. Any other advice, anyone? Starting out on disco. - schlurbi - 07-08-2009 Dont give him the Advice to powertrade. Man. Join a Trading faction. Have fun talking while earning money. I suggest you come to a Bretonian Corporation *coughs* Planetform *coughs* Starting out on disco. - Caledones - 07-08-2009 Well, I'm certainly open to the option of joining a faction, but would I not need to powertrade anyway, in order to set up an faction trader character? Seeing as I don't have very many credits at all right now. Starting out on disco. - farmerman - 07-08-2009 Joining a trade related faction may be a good idea. You can earn some money, see the sights, and RP with a wide assortment of people. It seems like that could give you a good feel for things. The new ALG or DSE factions may be a good thought. Or maybe PanGal, that could be a good thought, too. Edit: Also, if you're interested in things more Kusari way, here's a reference for some possible trade routes: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=rmH...1TFTg&gid=1 Starting out on disco. - Errant.Venture - 07-08-2009 hmm well some advice ship wise: the mammoth has 2200 cargo hold and costs 10 million from california system...planet mojave i think. the transport from baltimore shipyard has 2000 cargo and costs 12 million i have some trade routes i can show you if your interested...and if you want a loan, at no interest for a ship, i can do that too. welcome to disco, always pay the pirates, give notice before engaging a player, and always, always, always have fun. Starting out on disco. - AJBeast - 07-08-2009 Go mine Helium in Pennsilvania or Silver in Colorado. As soon as you got a transport , your choice really. You can either continue mining or start trading. If you go for the mining , get a mining ship and join a faction whos ID/Tag provides the bonuses you want. If you go for trading , join a trading faction and get a transport related to said faction. And please , PLEASE dont join the Zoners. We have enough Zoner Whales flying around as it is. EDIT: *facepalm* I almost forgot , you can mine scrap and sell it on Pittsburgh for 599 creds a piece. Thats even better. Starting out on disco. - Caledones - 07-08-2009 Hokay, a lot of good advice here. Errant, I sent ya a pm. I think a faction probably will be the best idea for me eventually. Being part of something usually does me best. I might try my hand at a bit of mining as well. Starting out on disco. - Errant.Venture - 07-08-2009 i have responed to your pm, and am willing to jump back ingame real quick to help you get set up |
