Well, since there seems to be a trend of pseudo-philosophical junk on the forums right now, I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon for trolling purposes, really.

My beef is the following:

Why do our fictitious, non-existent, roleplay characters have to be nice?

Sure, be nice, courteous et cetera out of character, but please, please, please differentiate that from your characters.

Be an ass. Don't say 'please' when you're threatening people. Don't ask permission from a neutral party to shoot people. Act like a pirate. Act like an imperialist pig. Act like a brutal revolutionary.

Too many characters and factions are being ridiculously accomodating when they shouldn't be.

Factions here are a particular problem, since their members have to obey 'be nice' rules, when by all rights, they should be acting like complete bastards.

Pirates are hated for a reason. They're frickin' pirates. The pirates have good reason to hate the imperialist pigs too. They're imperialist pigs who will stamp all over you!

Sure, be a courteous player, but don't limit characterisation for it.

Are you now talking about pirates of entire sirius or just the ones in Kusari/Bretonia?
I must that pirates in NY are awesome. A real pirates i would say. They are doing their job freaky awesome. Same as RHA.
The are rude on indie pirates which are supposed to be allied with them too. And i completely agree with it. I mean... Outcast meets hacker, and only because their factions allies, they have to be like: "Hallo there good Outcast friend. Today is a nice day right?" ? Gimme a break....

Quote:"Hallo there good Outcast friend. Today is a nice day right?" ? Gimme a break....

I believe that depends on the particular RP of that person. Perhaps the Hacker in question is quite friendly with the Outcasts, and has a good reputation with them.

Or maybe he hates the Outcast for getting him hooked on Cardy, either way, it depends on the RP

Maybe I should direct this to Bretonia, then.

It can be a ball-less wonder at times, in spite of having some of the highest quality RP and nicest, most community-orientated players, in my opinion.

blunt is pretty much right (as so often).

The goal of playing a character is to do it in a convincing way. Sure, nice pirates might happen, but all of them? No way.

That being said, there are many people already playing not-so-nice roles... and a few gentlemen and charming princes surely are not that bad of a sight.

I concur.

I also fall back to my statement of people talking like 16th century lawyers.

"Ah, indeed sir, I have seen such a pilot in the vicinity, though I know not where he went! Oh-ho, posh!"
