If you fly it right, no transport is getting away, no matter how well armoured.

Ten gunboats picking on one transport. Works like a charm.
Gunboats can pirate with most loadouts except solaris ones. Bombers and fighters can pirate with any loadout with a CD, really.

Anything comes your way, you can take it down. If they don't pay, you can rob them of most of their cargo.
