Just an idea - afoofis - 02-13-2007 I have been thinking about it and i thought that it might be a good idea to make missile ships. These can can go along side a battleship and easy destroy enemy shields with emp missiles. The ships would have special missiles to balance. The missile would be mainly emp or with limited damage. Can't have 40 cannonballs flying at you :yahoo: Anyways i'm making a basic sketch in gmax. If the responses are good i might continue the ship. But my skinning is limited so it doesn't look good. Just an idea - pchwang - 02-14-2007 Pretty cool dude... :D I like! The only problem is: Many non-vanilla ships do not take missile damage, like the Battlestars. And I'm guessing that you intend to use these ships as anti-capship ships, and that is not going to work that well, since most capships are impervious to missiles. If missile speeds were upgraded, however this kind of ship may serve as an interesting kind of anti-fighter ship. This, however, depends on the general use of specialized ship roles and the cooperative use of fleets. i.e. Having a main battleship, bombers, VHFs, LFs, Destroyers, and your missile ship. Missiles just do not damage the hull. Except the only shield busting missile that is practical is the Paralyzer, which, altough in abundance on wrecks, is not sold on bases. Just an idea - endlessvoid - 02-14-2007 Firestalkers (Class 9) and Sidewinders (Class 10) are very good for dodgy fighters. Cannonballs (Class 9) are nice against Gunboats, and Sunslayers torpedoes can kill pretty much any capital ship with a few hits. Shame that possessing mutltiple missile launchers of the same type doesn't increase the number of missiles you can hold, since its capped at 70.:( However, I have a question concerning the Paralizer, if you look closelly on it's description, you can read that frequent hits with it can disable a ship's engine and power. Anyone has seen this? If so, for how long does it "Paralizes" the foe ship? Does it works with Capital Ships? Just an idea - pchwang - 02-14-2007 Really? Much cooler:) Just an idea - Koolmo - 02-15-2007 The problem is, this will be an 'Uber ship', not an 'uber weapon'. One ship should not be able to mount specific, very good weapons. I believe the idea of a missle ship was considered and rejected before. Its not fair to have 1 ship that has specific advanteges over others. |
