Can we revamp missions? - froozin - 08-12-2009

We have missions where you just go kill people, missions where you assasinate a leader, missions where you destroy a base.Is there any way to add missions where you escort a friendly transport? Where you are sent to ambush a enemy convoy? Missions where you are given an important item and a fighter escort and have to bring it to another base?

Is any of this possible? I really feel that missions should play a larger role in the game. If possible it would be great to be able to hire an NPC fighter wing to protect you as well.

I think that stuff may be possible (with a lot of research if it hasn't been done already), but the problem with doing that is it would take a very long time to create missions for every faction that work properly.

Maybe I'm not the person who should be answering this question, but in my experience with modding Freelancer, or any game for that matter, if it hasn't been done before then chances are it won't be done unless someone, or a group of people, mess around with it long enough to make it work.

On top of that, missions as they are are kind of unbalanced. For example, level 39 missions will swarm you with fighters and make it impossible to defeat them all by your self. So it might be a better idea that the Dev. team work on fixing those problems before adding whole new types of missions to the game.

But those are just my thoughts...

Trading missions for Zoners? Greta idea - deliver the cargo through Nomad infested systems and your rep jumps; lose it and it drops...

Trading missions and the like have been done. I think hamburg city has done it.

I think a good start would be to have missions spawn Varied wings of ships rather than just 6 VHF's or 12 Light Fighters etc.
Somthing like 4 VHF and 4 Light Fighters. Or a Gunboat with Fighter escorts. Rather than High level missions spawning 4 Osiris', Why not 1 osiris, 2 Gunships and 6 Fighters.
This also counts for the friendlys that come to assist.

From that you could develop it into Transport ships spawning along with fighter escorts when you arrive.
Or a convoy of Friendly Freighters + escorts spawns when you arrive as friends you must protect.
Could then do missions like "Protect the crippled CapShip" with 1 freindly cap ship spawn and swarms of fighter opponents

88 Flak has done this, btw
