Edit: Queen Carina's Privateers. Though, despite the name, they don't take direct orders from the Queen (or any orders from anyone, anymore). They're unusually patriotic pirates with roots in the Bretonian military, though they've been officially exiled and ruled nothing more than petty criminals. *cough*

Privateers are patriotic, as well as vicious, merciless pirates. They do what they do for Bretonia, whether Bretonia likes it or not. Buccaneers are just pirates, pure pirates, all about the payoff. However, the Buccaneers tend to be very fair with regards to the people they're pirating.
