Civilians in Disrtress - dudeicoft - 08-16-2009 So after getting back from a trip I have found a lot of complaints regarding Liberty Corporate ships coming to the aid of civilian craft under some form of assult. The question I would like to bring to the table is: Should one attempt to help the unfortunate craft, or ignore it and carry on your merry way? Please justify your answer. Edit: This will directly affect some of our new policies in the USI. Civilians in Disrtress - Beagle23 - 08-16-2009 People may feel that it is strange for a company to put themselves in harms way for no reward, considering a company is about generating a guaranteed profit. That said, I voted respond. Your company, your policies. Not every company has to be soulless and immoral. Civilians in Disrtress - Slainte - 08-16-2009 I voted yes. USI is a Liberty lawfull corparation and, as any lawfull person would do, if you see a lawfull civvie in need of aid you would/should help. Civilians in Disrtress - hack - 08-16-2009 Having been in the Navy, this question has but a simple answer: Wouldn't you want someone to respond to your SOS? Civilians in Disrtress - Felis Longus - 08-16-2009 Well I think it depends on your rp character, but for USI case if its in your jurisdiction then you should, however if it was outside liberty then you should weigh the options between causing a potential international incident or aiding a potential client. Civilians in Disrtress - jammi - 08-16-2009 Leave it down to the character, for a case-by-case appraisal. In America, isn't there a law saying that if you see a car accident or someone being mugged you do not legally have to intervene? Well, you still have the choice of intervening, but most would just call the police. I'd assume Liberty is the same, so that gives you the option of averting your eyes, hoping no-one notices you then calling the LPI or Navy, or piling in to aid the stricken civilian under attack. By the IDs it's permitted, so it's down to you. Civilians in Disrtress - Thurgret - 08-16-2009 I think most corporate IDs allow those with them to defend other traders and to actively hunt pirates in their own ZoI, so clearly server rules allow it. It seems to be proper RP. Even if you go along the line of thought that corporations are there to make a profit - what does the corporation stand to gain from allowing merchant vessels in its bit of space to be robbed/destroyed? Civilians in Disrtress - AJBeast - 08-16-2009 I voted ignore. I find it somewhat annoying that so many corporate escorts have a hero complex. That is best left for the local lawfull forces. Unless said person beeing attacked is of your corporation , then yes , you should respond. Civilians in Disrtress - jammi - 08-16-2009 Actually, just to jump in again, Bowex has a royal Charter that obliges Bowex escorts to assist BAF pilots should they request it. That's special circumstances though. That's special circumstances though. Never had to assist BAF forces so far though. I sometimes wonder if they even know that they can call me for assistance? But back to the civilian S.O.S.: I respond to it if I don't have a task with higher priority. After all, no corporate escort can afford to leave his convoy alone, risking a lucky pirate attack. But if it's only me out there, probably on my way to a rendez-vous, I might respond to the distress call. So I voted yes. |
