Silly question about ship names - kikatsu - 08-17-2009 Just something I noticed and wondered about Most capital ships use their house designation before their actual name, like LNS Montana or RNC Hanz but all the actuall battleships in game don't use that, they are called by battleship..like Battleship Alma or Battleship Derby But I've never seen a player have their ship named like that, I wonder why I mean, well the inconsistancy bugs me a bit Silly question about ship names - Cellulanus - 08-17-2009 All of the Battleships in SP used the name Battleship *****, people probably don't use that designation because their name would be to long. Silly question about ship names - kikatsu - 08-17-2009 oh yeah, that makes sense, the character limit hmm well if I ever bothered to get some cash to buy a big boat (yeah like that will ever happen) I'd consider atleast trying to name it Battleship *** but I have so little free time, the time I spend on freelancer is mostly in fighters...not big money makers really Silly question about ship names - Thexare - 08-17-2009 NPCs do it too, check out the battleship patrols in Liberty. Players just took off from that, I suppose. Silly question about ship names - MarvinCZ - 08-17-2009 Stationary battleships use the name "Battleship XYZ", but NPC ships flying around use the name with house designation. I'd say "Battleship Missouri" is just the informal name by which most people from the general public would refer to it. Silly question about ship names - Cellulanus - 08-17-2009 The reason the NPC caps use house designation is because the game was never designed to have battleship NPCs, the game engine thinks the NPC battleships are cruisers. Silly question about ship names - Canadianguy - 08-17-2009 Still, its like all the designation from factions, it able you to quickly identify ships. Let say you are a Liberty Lawful, you patrol the lanes of texas and at one moment, you see someone called let say RNC-Warship at 5K left of the lane. Which ables you to quickly see its a Rheinlander and you inform your mates. If it was called only Warship, you would have to undock from the lane, and go closer to see what kind of ship it is. I think most ppl here know that relying only on the IFF for basic identification can lead to some problems, aka peeps with wrong IFFs. It raise the cances of you getting shot. And in real life, ships are called stuff like the USS Enterprise or the HMS Whatever the name is. Silly question about ship names - Ash - 08-17-2009 Stationary battleships have the battleship prefix as they are stations that concern anyone and everyone. Mobile battleships have the house ship prefix because it only really concerns that house's military Silly question about ship names - Jihadjoe - 08-18-2009 Some time ago, there was a player who had the ship Battleship.Chisos named after tha dead planet in texas. It was a lib dread. Silly question about ship names - jimmy Patterson - 08-18-2009 its an informality tho why RNC(rhineland naval CRUISER)is used as thats what it translates to for say gunboats is stupid RM shoulda wentr RMS like evreybody else |
