Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - Fletcher - 08-21-2009 After a days work, my brain got ticking. What would ship types be compared to in our military? I decided to give it a shot! Lets see how it goes. Light Fighters - I compare the Light Fighter to a general soldier, the infantry, or a fire squad. While the most agile ship, it doesn't have the firepower to take on large units on its own, like a fire team as an example. ![]() Heavy Fighter - I compare the Heavy Fighter to a sniper, the heavy fighter has a chance against light fighters, and perhaps very/super heavy fighters, but thats all. Like the sniper, it is good at what it can kill in the right hands. Very/Super Heavy Fighters - I compare these to a US Humvee. Big, relatively agile, but quite versatile. It can attack all fighters, and pick on a bomber when equipped correctly and in the right hands. Its firepower will give the agile light and the heavy fighters a long road to bringing it down. Bombers - I compare these to anti-tank infantry, or those who use Javelin launchers. These ships and people, are primary anti-armour, in any sense of the class. While these are great against capitals, they can gun down smaller agile ships, but only in the capable hands, or the lucky ones. ![]() Gunship Class - Like the Very/Super Heavy Fighters, this class is very versatile and can punch just above its own weight, and take on fighters, and a moderate skilled bomber. I compare these to Infantry Fighting Vehicles. ![]() Gunboat Class - I compare these to Challenger 2 Tank. These are versatile and can attack and win against a variety of classes, but is mainly tasked to take on either the same, or lighter classes. Not to be underestimated, but can be overrun quite quickly. ![]() Destroyer Class - I can only compare the destroyer to a slightly heavier Infantry Fighting vehicle, its around the same class as a gunboat, but still packs heavy fire-power. I guess I can compare it to a AH-1 Cobra. Nimble and packs a surprising punch, but can't really dance with heavier stuff. ![]() Cruiser Class - This class can win a fight against its heavier brothers, but only with the right tactics, armament and skill. Taking on bombers is not its best trait, but it can. I can compare this to an AH 64 Apache Longbow Gunship. Has a lot of firepower, it just won't take a lot of punishment. ![]() Battle Cruiser Class - This class is the bigger, and badder brother to the Cruiser, more firepower but a bit less agility. This class is comparable to the Hind-D Gunship. More firepower, and armour, just less agility. ![]() Battleship Class - Here it is, the main fire power and I can only compare it to a Paladin Self Propelled Artillery piece. Like the battleship, it is very suited to attacking the enemy at range, and keeping them there. If the smaller ships get too close, it is in trouble. But never, ever underestimate its attack potential. ![]() --------------------------
Well folks that is my draft of what I compare the army units to our Freelancer classes. Feel free to critisize, I didn't put as much thought into it than I should have done. But, I think some may agree, or disagree. I had a bit of fun drawing it up. Also, attack gunships are part of the army, not the airforce:P For those who don't know. I am comparing to the Army! Discuss! Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - MarvinCZ - 08-21-2009 Well, have fun hitting those attack helicopters with your artillery piece;) Other than that, it doesn't look bad. Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - Sarawr!? - 08-21-2009 I'd compare them more to Naval/Air Force units, because that would be more accurate if you ask me, But this is still pretty good for what you've done with it. *shrugs* Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - darthbeck - 08-21-2009 looks about right. only i would switch around helecopters with tanks. Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - reavengitair - 08-21-2009 Battleship is a tank with a huge gun? Liberty cruiser? Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - Fletcher - 08-21-2009 ' Wrote:Battleship is a tank with a huge gun? That artillery piece is all I could think of, and while its a 'tank' with a big gun, aren't battleships essentially big ships with big guns? Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - Sarawr!? - 08-22-2009 I still say it's more accurate to compare ship classes to modern Navy vessels, because that's still what they are in Freelancer, Navy vessels, because there are still ground forces within the militaries of each house, even though we never see them, they do exist. *nods* Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - reavengitair - 08-22-2009 Good point. BUT NOT THAAT BIG! But anyway, great comparison. Makes me laugh a little. Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - X-Lancer - 08-22-2009 hmm..Battleship, you mean this?
Comparing Ship Classes to Army Units - Fletcher - 08-22-2009 Well that did cross my mind, problem is, it isn't real... yet:lol: |
