Whats the point? - Warlord - 09-03-2009 Alright in case you wondered, this is not a topic with complains. It's a topic that (hopefully) will show you that there are currently things happening without a good RP background, which should either get a RP background or shouldn't be done at all. What is this thing you ask? Here be a example for you that happened like 5 minutes ago (of course it's in Liberty..) http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/8746/hmmmm.png Now what you see there is 3 Rogue and 1 hacker Gunboat hitting on the LNS. Aurora seemed not to return fire as the captain piloting it found it quite ''bored'' that those gunboats were engaging him. I tried talking to the pirates to hear the reason of their attack, one of them telling me: ''We don't need a reason!'' After awhile the LNS simply docked on Manhattan, leaving the pirates empty handed and retreating. So it got me thinking, realizing the following points. - There are LOADS of Gunboats these days, lawful and unlawful. If you fly in a fighter your practically useless now. - There have been huge fights at the most ockward places (like in front of Manhattan) with in the end having no point to it at all. Why.. why are pirates out for killing and not for pirating? Why are most lawful forces hiding in giant capital ships. If people could cut the capital-ship spam and get into fighters/bombers more it would solve a lot already. If pirates are actually pirating and not out for a killing spree it would increase the global RP level, if lawful forces would get out of the caps and do patrols in fighters/bombers it would increase the RP level. Why don't you people start thinking about role playing more, fighting less? Why is it that when theres like a fight at West Point that ALL people are involved there? Wouldn't it be much better if it goes like this.. - Pirates have spread out into different systems hacking different trade lanes - Lawful patrols respond to trader distress calls and come in a small number - There will be action in different places, 2v2 in New York, patrols in Texas, 1v1 in Colorado and 3v3 in California (just saying stuff) But who am I to tell you this? I just know that people that recognize themselves in this will simply get into denial or ignore this. It's like talking sense into most people here is more then useless! I thought this was a RP server, not a capital-ship server. Give me your two cents, who knows there might be a miracle and something gets done about this for once. Whats the point? - JIVA - 09-03-2009 if the described situation happenes as you said - the carrier captain acted pretty responsible and level headed "because we can" is a term often applied to pointless actions - closely followed by "cause you deserve it" ( in different variations ) why does the navy "hide" in large ships? - maybe cause its their role. - they are the sledgehammer, the army. they are not social workers. why do pirates attack a carrier near manhattan? - i have no idea. boredom? suicidal tendency? aside from the rather snappy response - it is a game. - players like to compete and interact. - thats a very basic need... and they compete by pvping each other. some people like that way of interaction, others don t like it too much. - but pvp is still the primary way to interact on the server. - pvp is not necessary for roleplay - but takes up a large spot there. and at the end of the day - it is mostly about having fun. edit: "I thought this was a RP server, not a capital-ship server." this is not a capital ship server, but it is nither a bomber server or a fighter server! - it is a freelancer server with roleplay aspects. - not hard to understand, i think. - the way YOU say it - it sounds as if its "either" a roleplay OR a "capital ship" server. - biased much? Whats the point? - tansytansey - 09-03-2009 Some people can't see past the mentality of "cops and robbers." Just because someone is your enemy, doesn't mean you have to hunt them, kill them. Even if you can. It varies from place to place, but Rogues, Hackers and Outcasts in Liberty, in my opinion, should avoid the Navy and Police. Xenos, however, should attack them, but they don't have any Gunboats or Cruisers so no one plays them xD Also, welcome to Liberty. Sometimes there's nothing you can do but forget about the actions of other people, and just make sure you don't fall into the same category. You can tell people how you think they should play all you want, but at the end of the day you'll only make yourself upset and frustraited. As long as you act fair and reasonable towards other people, and roleplay decently then you don't have to worry about what everyone else does. Whats the point? - Aoyagi - 09-03-2009 From what I've noticed, there are way too many players who doesn't follow basic RP rules (or even sever rules, nevermind that), but I guess there is nothing you can do. Except making everything way more expensive, make some harder death penalization and so on... Like you can't undock for 2 hours and loose some % of credits/level. Which is actualy not a bad idea, hehe. And of course it's nonsense for CC corsairs to raid New Yourk with tons of capitals, BSs and Cruisers included. Or for a lone kusarian indie battleship to rush at Leeds planet. But I guess there is no way how can you stop this. Whats the point? - casero - 09-03-2009 "You know who I'm?? YOU KNOW?! A little piece of crap like you sure doesn't know. I'm gonna tell you anyway, I'm a Commander in the Liberty Navy, you think that by a chance I'm affraid of your junk flying bomber?? It would take 2 minutes to call 2 gunboats and a battlecruiser to smash your little cockpit and watch your guts spreaded all over the wingscreen. You better get out of here now, or I'll kick your butt so hard, that it'd hurt your ancestors's nutts" That made the bomber get away, sure talking sometimes work. Perhaps, you need to learn fly a fighter?.. 3 fighters can take down 2 gunboats without much problems. I can show a lot of screens were VHF"s are making wonders even agiasnt BC's cap swarms supported by fighters. Its a pitty That NY is spamed with lolwutting capnabs, but they can be delt with. IF they brake the rules - report how simple is that? Parhaps engaging a lawful in unlawful isnt ooRP but I think constalty doing it without much RP is higly discoureged, and if taht continues admins may use the "Can sanction anything what harms server gameplay" rule. Whats the point? - Warlord - 09-03-2009 ' Wrote:Perhaps, you need to learn fly a fighter?.. You have no clue who your talking to do you? I've had bombers complaining to me that I drift to much, and that I don't fight with fun. I've had the [LN] trainer calling me a monster after I killed him in his bomber and his fighter without loosing my shield. After approximately 6 years of flying in a fighter I think I got the hang of it. The reason I said that fighters are useless these days is simply because one fighter cannot take on a gunboat, sure 3 fighters could do a lot on them, hell I even took one down with one bomber! But in case you didn't noticed I am a [*USI*] Member, I escort our traders. What if I get disrupted out of a lane with my convoy by a pirate gunboat? All I can do is submit to his demands, and then other pirates will see that pirating in a gunboat is most effective and they'll all start pirating in a gunboat because they don't have to worry about fighter escorts at all. That was actually my point.. hope it got cleared up for you now. |
