Countermeasures: heavy or enhanced? - silverleaf - 09-05-2009

Hi, I'm just wondering which is better in general. Heavy fires slower but has 1500 range, enhanced has 1000 range but fires faster. So I really wonder which is better for fighters and which for my zoner tradeboat (yep I'm zoner now). Price is not a slightest concern, they are cheap.

Cruise disruptors are my primary concern. They have not that long a range, so maybe 1.5k is not necessary and rapid fire will do better. However, I don't want to run out, and don't want to carry that much ammo either.

I know running from pirates=generally bad idea, but if they are 5k away, I don't see why not. Also, about NPC pirates...
This ship is agile and think it has a 50 50 chance of evading long range snacs.

Enhanced, they are cheaper.

i think its in the ID...

heavy CMs are generally better of course - but take a good chunk of energy

enhanced are slightly worse but do not require energy to fire

that sums it up. - if you mount heavy ones on a ZBT for example, and you get a CD spammer. - you ll end up immobile ( cause your impulse shuts down due to lack of power )

Right. However they do not take THAT much power, think my beast can handle it... or should I just go for the enhanced?

Which gives me the greater chance of a getaway, though I shouldn't worry too much about pirates where I'm going.

Go for then enhanced. Cheaper and generally better at firing.

silverleaf - not taking "that" much power... here s a little story:

i was flying a ZBT ( small transport powercore ) - through kappa

at that time i had an anti SN shield mounted ( fast repop shield ) - and was chased by 4 assassins spamming CDs at me.

now - the only chance to escape is to CM the CDs - if you cannot cruise off, you die. - the old thrust and turn around tactic doesn t work too well in a system with too many obstacles.

what happened there?

the CM is of couse set to automatic - the only really efficient way to CM CDs in such a transport. - the assassins spammed maybe 8 or 12 CDs - while firing at me.

the shield dropped - and "asked" for 3000/sec energy to replenish. - i cannot stop the shield trying to recharge. - 3000 energy however is the recharge rate of the powercore!

you get the problem? - shield indefinitely trying to suck 3k energy - CMs dropping the remaining power slowly but steadily. - thrusting is no option, cause i could not have made it, cruising was the only straw to grab.

10 seconds later - the whale becomes a beached whale. - zero energy, immobile ( a tragic 600 meters from the jumphole ) - and NO way to get energy back, cause the shield needs as much energy as the reactor provides.

had i have enhanced CMs - i might have made it.

of course - it was a misconception on my part about what i can mount on the ship - and henceforth, i am flying with a slow regen shield and an enhanced CM:laugh:

the moral of it all: even when the heavy ones only take a little energy - it can be THAT bit that you need to survive.

i think that with the enhanced CM, it is better for the NPCs.

with either enhanced or heavy CM, if the character chasing you has a train CD, your pretty much screwed if your close to him. if your more than 2k away, the enhanced is much better simply because you can hit C and rapid fire a whole slew of them out behind your ship, and chances are the CD is bound to hit one of them instead of you.

but then again, sometimes its completely ineffective....no matter how many you spit out.....

i vote enhanced all the way, because of rapid fire. chances of effectiveness are increased greatly.

So, the choice is laid out for you now.

Enhanced, by far my favourite.

I got the enhanced. THanks.
Question: who would want to stalk and kill a zoner? Or by assasins you mean pirates?

And I love my ZBT... only get stuck in lanes less than half the time of in my mastodan... IT CAN EVEN MAKE SHARP BENDS!!

By assasins, Jinx means nomad assasins, I assume. They're powerful nomad ships, the equivalent of a VHF or possibly a bomber (I've never met any, thank goodness)

As to who would want to stalk or kill a zoner, quite a few people have reasons.
