Project: Discovery Ship Card Ratings - Fletcher - 09-09-2009

Hey folks, I caught myself watching things on YouTube like "Top 10 best Tanks/Fighters/Guns". So I was wondering, what if we all submit our own little card on each ship we fly and share it with the community, and one day make some sort of library on it.

Think of it as a review through experience on flying or fighting these ships, rather than looking at cold hard stats on a Freelancer 'spoiler' program.

I don't have much graphical talent, or software to come up with an eye appealing card, but to start, I made this (In powerpoint):

Now as you can see its pretty bog standard with the usual fair of details, but you are likely curious about the 10 star rating system right? Allow me to try and explain:
  • Firepower: This rating is based on the ship's gun class, whether there is a torpedo, CD and the extra ability to use all its firing arcs. If a ship can fire class 10 guns forward and can mount torpedoes, or a SNAC, I'd rank this pretty high on the chart, but that is not all. You have to take into account about how much fire power it can use well, you must take firing arcs into account. Capital craft will be heavily subjugated by this.
  • Agility: Pretty simple, how quick can this ship turn and how easy is it to hit. This will take its jousting ability and ship profile into account, so hit-boxes are taken into consideration.
  • Armour: Very simple, how long can it last in a fight, and for argument sake, when the ship is equipped with a class VIII(8) armour upgrade.
  • Power Rating: This takes the power supply into account, and how long it can fire for. I am unsure whether firing mini's and Novas and above should count, since that is firepower.
  • Cargo: This is basically how much this ship can hold in its CLASS. I think that explains that.
  • Fear Factor: Simple, when you see the ship's name on your scanner, how nervous do you get or how long does it take for you to call for help? If its immediate, this ship scores highly. If you don't call for help or you think its child's play, its low on the fear factor.
This project hasn't really started on my end, but I'm hoping to push the boat out and help out with it.

What are your thoughts on this? And suggestions and criticism is most welcome and you are free to (vastly) improve the graphics on that card I made.

Feedback?

Well, here is my most flown ship, My Zoner Juggernaut which has 618 hours logged on it.

The stars wouldn't fill in paint so I just put boxes over them.

The reasoning on the fear factor thing is that its a ZONER juggernaut so It wouldnt be too scary unless your an enemy of the Zoners. However, I think something like a Rhienland BS or Kusari BS would be very high.

Well as for BSs I fly this one.

I've maxed the Power as it has 18 turrets. If you ignore the admin Venater than the RM BS is tied with Kusari and Battle Star II as having the most turrets. I put it's armour at almost full minus a partial star as the Jinkusu and the Battle Star are tied at the top and RM BS is just behind. It's powerplant, of course, is the big one. Also this dread has a fear factor but it doesn't mae it to the top. Still this thing sticks around awhile and pounds out a lot of damage, with a full escort it's pretty deadly. Agilty is moot and cargo is high amongst the BSs.

Nice idea , i like idea, i love it. It is better now for traders before they try to return fire, same for pirates before attacking any other military members.:D

I am -not- going to participate. There is no beauty rating! That's the most important thing about each ship!
