How to setup mod command line options - Cannon - 10-05-2009

Wide screen

Before you begin

If you've already installed a manual widescreen mod you'll need to remove this before trying the following. Specifically the cameras.ini, fonts.ini and richfonts.ini should be restored to their original settings.

- If you are docked when you first login, you can only see a single icon at the top of the screen. This is normal. Once you launch to space and dock again all of the icons will be displayed. At some point once I've finished about 30 other things I'll try to fix this.

- The font sizes are not optimal when compared to some manual mods.

On Windows XP

Right click on the shortcut that you use to start Freelancer, select “Properties”:

Edit the “Target” field in the Properties window and add "–dx" to the end of the line. This will set your Freelancer to your current desktop resolution. The example below shows this

[Image: bi6ltx.png]

As the above image shows, use the Target field (Shown by the arrow) to add " -dx" to get the game to automatically go to your Desktop resolution, so it will be the same size as what you use for the desktop. Remember to have a space between the end of the shortcut target and the start of the widescreen parameters, like so:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -dx

Alternately you can manually specify the resolution by adding "-dHxW" rather than -dx where H is the height and W is the width. For example for a 1400 by 900 monitor use -d1400x900.

On Windows Vista/7

Right click on the shortcut that you normally use to start Freelancer then click Properties (Shown by the arrow) like so;

[Image: shortcut1.png]

You will get a form showing this;

[Image: shortcut2.png]

As the above image shows, use the Target field (Shown by the arrow) to add " -dx" to get the game to automatically go to your Desktop resolution, so it will be the same size as what you use for the desktop. You can also add it in manually like in the picture such as " -d1920x1200", replacing the numbers with your desired resolution. Remember to have a space between the end of the shortcut target and the start of the widescreen parameters, like so:

"E:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -dx

Kudos to Enko for this great write up.

sooo, should the -dx be after the "-s82.113.48.5:2302" extention I already have, or is the workaround no longer needed & I'm just behind the curve?

How to setup mod command line options - Cannon - 10-05-2009

Hey man, yeah it should. Either before or after is fine.

By the way, it doesn't need the "-s82.113.48.5:2302" extension as the mod adds this automatically.

Ok, that just rocks 8 ways from Sunday:yahoo:

I gave it a shot & the res is stellar & I'm all excited & love it, but now, my next question:

From these pics you can see the minor issues I'm having with 1440x900

What setting would you recommend to lower my res in game just enough to remain widescreen & yet not cut anything off while not having to change my desktop res?

::edit- doh! ok...my slow self answered my own question, but what would the wise & powerful server monkey recommend to set the res in the shortcut to in order to stretch the screen to full visibility?::

Well, this is normal for me. You must dock to see your hud. I just wish you could move those boxes over to the sides of the screen...

The Widescreenmode doesn't work for me. It seems like the game always forces the resolution to 1600x1200, no matter what I try.
I have reinstalled the game to get rid of the manual widescreen fich (which worked) so that can't be an issue.
Any hints?

Edit: I figured it out. The FAM shortcuts doesn't work with these parameters, i have to activate the accounts in FAM and launch the game from a seperate shortcut with the -dx parameters. Hope that helps everybody who has the same problem.

Doesn't the upgrade overwrite all the inis?

Or am I remembering wrong?

I wanted to reinstall anyway to change the game language into english so i just did it.
It appears that FAMs shortcuts don't work with the parameters, you after activating an account the came has to be started sepertely.
