ECM Devices - Eppy - 06-15-2007

Concept brought up in the Saber Weapons thread. Should we have an ECM system for our fighters (Obviously you're not going to hide a battleship), and if so, how should it work (and if so, will the game let us do that)?

ECM Devices - Nightfall - 06-15-2007

Umm! How should I put it?

No?

I hate repeating: game engine limitations blah blah blah...

... And I pronounce this one as: 'Spammer of the Day'! BestFlyerHere, I would feel my title of BestSpammerHere in high danger if I were you.
*sees where this leads. supresses the urge to move this to flood*

Had one of those uber mines too, that went ... Supernova, cost 40k a piece, nasty piece of work and waaay
to powerful. Unbalanced ... Why would we have another one then ?

Supers... I loved those. you could defeat any VHF with one of those + CD...

Quote:A cloak device here is a big no no.
A stealth device, on the other side (if possible to be made), would be nice.

The stealth device would be a sensor jammer, that makes all enemy sensors to work at 3k range only. That way a player ship could approach to within cargo scan range.
Also, the ship should not be selectable manually, nor show on the target list. But said ship would be visible (but not highlighted on the HUD).
The device should take energy from the weapons and/or shields, and have an initial power draw of 50% the weapons energy.

I know it's possible to do it with scripts, but i do not know how to do it myself

Quote:Using the armor slot is a good idea. That way you have to choose between ECM and armor. Hence, we will be avoiding the "100% of the players using ECM" problem.

Ships are still visible, but as they don't show on HUD, you have no crossair to aim your shoots to.
A player will have to drop out of cruise. That is to avoid the engine torch from being seen at a distance.

We can conclude from all this that cruiser or bigger won't use ECM, as they are clearly visible from almost 8k as fat moving objects.

The power drain will have to be tweaked so the thing lasts enough for a 20k incursion. That is to see the intended target, go in, scan and go out without the ECM running out of energy in the middle of the run.

Such device would be very useful for pirates, as the current tendency is to dock or F1 as soon as the pirate enters visual range (15k). And will encourage the use of small ships as tactical stealth strike vessels. Having advanced-position scout ships for your fleet will be useful too, as they can go 10k in front of the fleet and warn about threats with minimal detection risk.
Note that all this is just theoretical. We have to wait for Igiss comment on the matter, and he is hell of busy. BEcause of that, i dont hold much hopes about this being implemented. Unless we can recruit more modders for our cause.

Look cheap cloaking devices for sale ... Just take your ship up north, and hey presto. Would be a little
more efficient if I sold the cargo pods though, don't seem to be able to do a thing with em ...

'Super Cloaks' for sale

See Jay Simon at [IND] for best prices and where to get the mother ...

Had that too with my train in Tau-37.

Been experimenting with mining and spent some time in the malvinas cloud, the ship would vanish and show up froom time 2 time...

Engine bug probably

ECM Devices - Nightfall - 06-15-2007

Templar, you missed the point.

Super-Cloak - Invisible - backtothedrawingboard! Needles(s) to say.

ECM Devices - Panzer - 06-15-2007

(commented the screenie, but nevermind)

ECM Devices - Eppy - 06-16-2007

...this was on the ECM, not the cloaking device, which is still pure evil. I don't know enough about the engine to make that call, but no one really shot it down in the other thread, so I don't know why I see all the guns pointed over here... Besides, assuming Igiss is as busy as people say he is (almost certainly) then this is all essentially completely theoretical. And I remember the Supernova from older versions, yes, it was vicious, but we were talking a mine that cost, I believe the figure was, 800 million credits. The supernova was only forty thousand (Which is still horrendously expensive).
