Seriously now guys... - TankTarget - 06-22-2007 It's time we seriously think about Discovery's economy. There needs to be more than one way to make money. The main idea is missions obviously, make them pay equal to trading no more no less. There also is a need for pirating to be profitable. Without asking for money, by making cargo sell for higher on pirate bases. And now, mining also needs to be equal well paying. and we can take a lesson from dare I say it EVE Mining in a safe pirate free place like say Manhattan, will be mildly well paying whilst mining in Omega 41 or Tau 37 right next to pirate space or in Dublin you can mine valuable stuff and sell it for money but there is intense risk in doing so. So you'll need an escort to do so. Now if anyone has any other ideas suggest them, I really want everyone in the community to take this dead serious. Because it would make Discovery far more diverse without taking away from Freelancer or changing it. And it would add to RP immensely. Seriously now guys... - Death Shadow - 06-22-2007 I had an idea a while back.. No traders use escorts anymore really. So make it more profitable to use escorts. Make another train say, 10,000 -15,000 cargo space (maybe even 20) but NO SHIELD. Even NPC's will be able to kill this so obviously escorts WILL be needed and the trader will still make more money than if he had a regular train that has almost 5,000 cargo space Seriously now guys... - Korrd - 06-22-2007 No Just make mining worthy by increasing the amount of resources per rock, and adding special mining equipment, like the mining mine i suggested. because minning must take the same time than trading, if not nobody will do it. Seriously now guys... - Eppy - 06-22-2007 I agree, most heavily with the mining scheme. Even trading has become more difficult, since the bloody pirates demand more than I make in several runs. But particularly mining, it becomes completely innefficient when your ship has more than 400 cargo. I'd like to be able to fund an empire on mining. Might prove interesting. I think the no-shield has plenty of merit, but not a train-we need a BARGE. something that moves very slowly, without a thruster, and is, in short, massive. give it a shield, but a weak one, just enough to stop collision damage. Mission-money isn't even a question anymore. I've never seen any opposition to it at all. I think the real question is when. Seriously now guys... - TankTarget - 06-23-2007 Yeah because there are many factions with great wealth acquired by trading. HF spends equally as much time fighting. So why not make war profitable. Yeah, add more than one way to make money. More than two, Mining, fighting, trading. It would seriously balance Disco's economy, and add strategy to wars. Now if faction A controls a mineral field and makes money off of it faction B will want to mine But if Faction A does not like faction B they can make it hell to get the mineral fields So therein lies the idea Seriously now guys... - Fellow Hoodlum - 06-23-2007 War profitable ??? Get real, biggest waste of resources the world will ever know ... The only people who get rich from war would be merchants, and TRADERS. Fighting does, and should continue to burn resources real fast. Trading, or mining should have to continue to make a faction economy work well ... Mercenary style fighting should be the only way any form of war could make a credit or two. Pay up, or you don't get the soldiers. Control of minerals deposits or a certain commodity could influence a bank balance though. Mista, traders do use escorts, just not your way overpriced sso| style though. Any mercenary form of faction has currently put a little too much stock in its own value at the moment. You guys need to be a touch more realistic in what you charge, or attempt to, otherwise no one is ever going to use you. [IND] started its own escort wing because the prices asked by other factions were to be honest, a joke. Igiss did make the rocks drop more, but having 19 Scrap Metal instead of 5 really isn't gonna help us any more. Mkae the things like Niobium, Gold and Cobalt worth more and not sold on any bases, so you have to mine to get them, and make the mines drop like20-30 of these uber-good resources. I can see so many options of how these things can be great and we just need to make Igiss change them.... And Korrd's mining mine is a good idea too. I suggest something like that get added. That may help the weapon industry but ti won't help anywhere else. True Fact: If the U.S. spent 1% less of the its 'War Money' on helping homeless/third world country people, they could continuously feed everyone on the planet. Anyways, this is off topic.
