My computer died again - McNeo - 06-27-2007 Yep, you heard it first here folks. My computer has officially died again. Not hardware this time though, XP installation was corrupted by repeated overclocking and restarts (how exactly I would like to know). So to cut a long relatively story short, my friends computer is sitting on its side, open, next to mine which is also open. Ive had to dig out my 6 year old floppy drive and I dont have the connection to power it >.< Luckily, my friends budget PSU has more archaic connections than mine, so that part was ok. Downloaded the Hitachi feature tool to make my HDD work with my friends computer. However my friends computer doesnt pick up Sata-2 at all so, i had to put it back in my computer. With the HDD settings changed, smooth sailing you would think? Nope sorry, I mounted the hard drive akwardly in the cage and it bloody sparked with the back of another HDD, which has made my freinds HDD work only selectively now. My HDD is not damaged though, but i smelt burning silicon.... Anyway, after fiddling loads and finally getting my freinds computer to boot, I transfered what files I could find on to his undamaged HDD, then plopped it back in my computer with the WinXP disk in the drive. Surely plain sailing from here no? Nope, the XP installation only picked up one of my two partitions, and my freind deleted it before I could see its significance. Hence, my freinds computer refused point blank to boot with it connected in any way. So, installing windows. No hitch there, all gone to plan, apart from the 200 gig of space I just lost in my non-existant second partition. With WinXP installed, it booted on my freinds computer and I transfered the critical files I needed and wanted. I duplicate my freinds internet settings, but no the internet refuses to work! So I get SP2 from a site on my freinds computer and transfer it to my HDD, after yet more wire fiddling. So FLMM and FLAM on my PC, and I find out that FLAM refuses point-blank to work, giving me this error: Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependancies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid. Coretemp also doesnt work, giving me the Bsod whenever i try to start it. CPU-Z works fine though. What?! No internet. No Freelancer. Damn. But a clean install of windows to start over. I can get the IT manager to have a look at my internet settings, so thats covered, but I need help in recovering my invisible partition. If any of you have experienced somthing similar or have a possible solution, please say! My computer died again - Death Shadow - 06-28-2007 if u deleted the partition you cant get your files back (i dont think). but the clean XP install shouldve made it work again so not sure why it doesnt there. If you have another hard drive put that in and try installing XP again and then make sure it works and transfer over some files and things from the old hard drive. btw ill ask mAtty what he would do. hes fixed a few pc's before. My computer died again - McNeo - 06-28-2007 I have only one hard drive, with my invisible partition being the secondary one. Im trying to find a partition manager that will work with my severely limited knoledge of software, compared to hardware, to see if that will pick up my second partition after a scan. If it doesn't....I dont know what Ill do. Thankyou for getting mATTY to have a look at my problem Mista.:) My computer died again - Fellow Hoodlum - 06-28-2007 Mac, sorry to hear your tale of woe there mate. If you can wait till tomorrow I'll get you a link to a friend's site with several very useful downloadable software items, including 'Partition Manager'. Its the one I use. The rest of your post was like a Laurel and Hardy movie, love to have seen and smelt that ... Hoodlum:mellow: My computer died again - McNeo - 06-28-2007 I can do the 'seen' part as soon as I can commandeer my friends phone and take a pic. But knowing my luck, that will just kill both the computers. I can wait till tomorrow, even though my computer has been dubbed "my beloved" which it probably is. Thanks Hood. Still waiting impatiently for my computer to get its act together:cool: My computer died again - MrSns - 06-28-2007 NOOO my man i need you we are soo close to taking Rheinland we need you. Good luck with fixing your pc:) My computer died again - McNeo - 06-28-2007 ![]() ![]() Proof of my tale of woe. Only thing to get working now is the internet. Then dig through my CDs to find the installation stuff for my computer and its attached hardware. My computer died again - Eppy - 06-28-2007 ...Oh my god. What a horrible thing. Even for a Corsair, this is more than anybody deserves. Best wishes fixing your machine. Just don't go like that sailor at the end of Titanic with the revolver. My computer died again - McNeo - 06-29-2007 Ok, after spending my whole life for three days trying to fix my computer, it is finally working as it should. Now I need to find all the software that I lost, and catch up on the three days of my life that I lost. Freelancer account manager still isn't working either >.< Damn my bad luck and tempermental computer. My computer died again - Death Shadow - 06-29-2007 that sux.
