There's a way on my laptop (Vista), but haven't figured it out yet. password folder - TankTarget - 07-01-2007 I am the hero, http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/232 There ya go mate, passworded folders password folder - Qunitinius~Verginix - 07-01-2007 While this is Helpful, it forces you to create a password for your entire account, which is not what I want to do on a sharred computer. Everyone uses the same account at my house (Stupid, yes) and I would like some of my personal files kept hidden. Any OTHER ways I can cover my porn *cough* i mean downloads *cough* invisble? J/k about the pr0n stuff hehehe. Verginix Out password folder - TankTarget - 07-01-2007 We believe you QV...of course it was a joke;) Now, the password thing apparently only works when the person trying to break into your file is doing so from a separate user account on the computer. So the solution to this whole thing is to make one account for yourself an admin account and password it and configure accounts for everyone else with their own passwords and always log out before getting up. Should solve some issues... password folder - BestFlyerHere - 07-01-2007 Verg, Tank's right. But, if you're as lazy as I am, then do this. Right-Click on the folder you want undiscoverable, then click on Properties. There should be a checkbox labled "Hidden". Check this box. Then, the file should disappear. Then press Alt, click on Options. Then folder options, then the View tab. There a checkbox in there called "Show hidden files". Check it. Now you can see the hidden file. Once you get off the computer, just un-check that box I told you, the show hidden files one. That way, unless someone is really good at computers, they won't be able to see your files. Once you get back on, show them again. Simple. Figured out how to password protect at least Office files. Click File. Save as. In the upper right hand corner, there should be "options". Click that. Then click Security Options. Assign a password "Password" Click OK. It makes you confirm it, then you're good.:) Oh, there's 2 password boxes. You can just password 1 of the boxes, then they can open the file, but not edit it without the password. You decide. password folder - Exile - 07-01-2007 Cool, ty guys:) password folder - BestFlyerHere - 07-01-2007 Oh, also, if you compress a folder, then right-click on it when it's done compressing, right under "Extract all" there should be an "assign a password" option. Several programs that might be useful. http://www.everstrike.com/ |
