The process: - Shagohad - 01-22-2010 After a phone call with a telemarketer, I had a sudden realization: That there is really no progress in debate RP. She kept trying to get me to listen to rates about a new company, and I was perfectly fine with my current company. She kept pestering me as if someone had a gun to her baby's head and threatened to pull the trigger. I finally got fed up and said, "Please. I don't want to change. This is when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object." Then I hung up. This is the process for anything. Say a Xenos meets an LN. Our Xenos is named Tom and our LN is named Tim. Tim and Tom are arguing about why they are correct about their view. They both have pressing arguments and rather well thought-out points. It all works. They decide that there is no point in arguing because no one will change. They decide to shoot. Who ever survives was obviously correct because they survived. Right? Tom lives, so now he can continue to harass the people of Liberty and kill more foreigners. Cool beans. This is how it works. There is no change. Or so I think. What if Tim or Tom actually listened to the other compatriot? Can Tim go Xenos and turn on his allies? Can Tom start going all lawful on the Xenos in that second? Just say, "Know what? You're right. Engaging former ally." It seems like I should be able to. But people can be pissy. That upsets me. They find some way to screw the character over so I can't play it anymore or even just 'lawlno' it in the first place. Comments? The process: - Zapp - 01-22-2010 Seems like a good description of it. Any deviation from the norm and you gotta fill out an SRP form anymore. Used to be you could defect rather easily, provided you could back up reasons etc. Now? Nope, can't take anything with you. Your ship was destroyed in the escape and a buddy tractored in your pod, took you back to his base, and gave you a Xeno ship (for example). The process: - gafiaiiu - 01-22-2010 This sort of thing is actually quite possible, provided that the person you're doing it with is a nice fellow of sorts. In fact, this sort of thing partially happened with my LABC, I ended up being captured on purpose because I didn't really feel like doing that sort of stuff at that moment, and was already planning on getting rid of the ship. But if I didn't it would've been a bit weird, having a LN guard ID with hostile LN. Its probably quite possible to loose a said ship, but the difference between a capital an a fighter is the repair of said ships. Generally, its accepted that when a fighter gets downed, it is turned into a small cloud of rubble, while a capital is left as a disabled hulk, which is towed by allied forces and repaired. Mah POV anyway... The process: - Unseelie - 01-22-2010 I often try to hire pirates as escorts, but it never seems to work. Indeed, though, I once defected and turned traitor in the middle of a battle, simply because it was an unfair fight. This was an rp battle, but the fight was horribly unfair, a sort of cap bashing gankfest that had been going back and forth for a while. I was, personally, sick of it, and my character apparently decided that the rebels were not in any way defending anyone when one straw got to many, and another group of battleships surrounded a navy fighter patrol, and executed them. RP here has become very restricted to set ideologies, and the equipment each group produces, regardless of whether they really should be able to produce the equipment. The process: - Shagohad - 01-22-2010 SRP is broken. And I need to run it through the leaders of factions. Grrr. The process: - Unseelie - 01-22-2010 ' Wrote:SRP is broken. And I need to run it through the leaders of factions. Grrr.I'd have tried 3 srps by now, if I weren't too lazy/depressive to actually get the work done. I'm nearly certain one of them would be approved, but to wait a month to play the character? I'd likely not want to play it anymore. Things really aren't set up for any sort of changes from the norm, anymore. As has been said, disco is very much about factionlancer, not for quirky or outlandish rp chances. Conservationism. 'I stole it' hasn't been considered a great excuse for having a ship, but...realistically, I'd argue that most ships should be available on the open market, and likely not even attached to a specific faction. Guns, equipment as well, are produced by someone, and the most obvious suspects for that is for profit firms...who generally sell to anyone. 'I stole it' should be, additionally, the reason why every single pirate in the game even has a ship...or most of them. Ship restrictions aren't about RP, or realism, but about balance, I suspect, if even that, on the grounds that its much easier to balance one ship against only the ships of its immediate neighbors, rather than every other ship, which would be the case in an open market system. Solution to frustrations with disco? Think about how you would do it, if you were in charge. Write something up, vent a bit, and then realize that we're really only here for the skype network.:P The process: - Dusty Lens - 01-22-2010 ' Wrote:realistically, I'd argue that most ships should be available on the open market, and likely not even attached to a specific faction. I would also argue that any ship which isn't readily accessible should be, upon destruction, sold and replaced with another. But that's when everyone starts getting all awkward. The process: - ghostcat - 01-22-2010 Don't get me started on the time my whole faction rebelled against the leader XD The process: - Shagohad - 01-22-2010 Not so much about SRP as it is about the lack of flexibility. I was arguing with an RM with my AU and SCRA allies and he just refused to give in. We decided to go and he stopped us. Pew pew. We won. Does that make us correct? Are we superior? I'd rather have had that RM scuttle of with us. I'm gonna' try this...see what happens. At least with an indie.
