Is it possible to turn off the engines? - Luis - 02-18-2010

(// Mini RP)

CAPTAIN: Status of the ship, Commander?

Commander: Everthing looks green. Engine pressure is stable - no warning is being given on the screen

CAPTAIN Sounds good. Pilot, how's the hydraulics?

Pilot1: Everything is between 45-50%, Captain.

Pilot2: Getting same status here.

CAPTAIN: Mhmm, i rather here this kinda of status on battle - haha. Oright, we will sit here on the Orbit of Gran Canaria. Shutdown the engines, for it not to overheat - never know.

Commander: Acknowledge, Captain.

(// Ok, that was a bit of fun)

Well,... while i was taking a walk and thinking of what next to model for Discovery Shipline, I came with an idea about the engines exhaust. Is it possible to 'shut down' the exhaust with a command?- For Example:

/poweroff engine (this one is to shut down the main engine of the ship, or just one engine)

/poweroff engine 1 (this one shuts down one engine out of 'X')

/poweron engine (of course, turns it back on)

/poweron engine 1 (again, turns on one engine out of 'X')

However, when these commands are set, the ship will remain stable - not reacting to move forward/backwards/left/right/up/down. This can happen when the ship engines are 'off'.

In order to move the ship, turn it back on simple.

Nevertheless, the idea is quite - creative for RP purposes - I don't know if the devs can create something like this.

If so, can we have it for the release of 4.86?

REMINDER:
I wouldn't like to see this thread locked. If you have nothing else to say, but other than say something 'stupid', leave. I will like to see 'brief' comments that are disagreeable or agreeable and/or supporting this idea for it to be placed onto .86.

Thanks!

-Luis

Interesting...
It would certainly improve RP.

The engines are made client side, because they are just rendered by the game engine - therefore / commands wouldn't be nessesary (Don't know if it's possible either), I bet Cannon could page one of the F keys do something like this.

Hmmm, /summon cannon?

would be nice if engine killing actually turned off your engines entirely.

Hmm, thats a better way to put it .... i think.

Very nice idea, Luis, though I'd like to see engine kill do this. Having constant engine blasts out my ship's tail when the engine is, well, killed, is kinda strange.

What's the difference between this and scrolling your mouse wheel down, apart from aethstetic value?

Nothing.

But scrolling your mousewheel down (aka lowering speed) doesnt get rid of your engine effect, or the engine noise. Engine killing removes the ambient noise of your engine, but still doesnt get rid of the effect.

Thanks for explaining, Ten =)
