Newbies and RP... - William Frederick Cody - 03-05-2010 ' Wrote:So, It got me thinking while reading Champ's Thread... Alot of people acting like tards during their first few weeks, even months on the server... Which is understandable. But. But this lets me think of a poll: How long exactly? Days? Weeks? Months? Nearly a year or more? And how many newbies heard or practiced RP before? Vote and add a comment, if you want. *couch* Shame on me, I was obviously one of the bigger idiots on disco. I learned about the rules, but late, as I read the players-sanctions-section. I am not a PvP whore, so I never annoyed some players that much, that they would have reported me. Maybe this prevented me to got reported, but really, I was an idiot nearly a year. As I got it, I was ashamed myself. As I mentioned before, I docked in an osiris on manhattan, to visit a friend. I said that to another player in system chat. Anyone remembers? Was ~1,5 - 2,5 years ago. It may be caused in that I am german native and tounged. Also it may be caused in that I tend to think too complicated, mostly. Thoughts without doubt are rare. I seriously needed nearly a year to get it: Play as a child here only! Imagination, that is it. I'll add a small story: Two weeks ago, I met two perfect roleplayers, 5 and 7 years old, roleplaying Lego with me. The two nice daughters of my sister. I builded a nice house for them, and some cars and while driving with the car on the (Lego) streets, they seriously explaned me: "We bring a gift/present to you (my Lego-Avatar), but you (my Lego-Avatar) dont know it, although you (RL guy) know it. So be surprised, when we bring the present/gift." I nodded only and said:"Of course." I remembered the time I recognized the meaning of RP here on Disco. But in myself, I laughed very hard, confrontated with the fact, that RP is given to everyone, you only have to remember your childhood and playing a LEGO, Playmobil, Big, matchbox, transformer, doll or whatever char... Hey, they never heard about RP or such. But they explained me carefully to be not ooRP ingame (Free LEGO RP)! Playing like a child is the key, I am convinced. Newbies and RP... - kikatsu - 03-05-2010 I was able to get into the RP itself rather fast...but I did not understand how ships and tech worked. I remember my first ship was a defender that was paid for by Salem Jansen, who then helped me get the guns for it....a few Sammaels off of a wreck, along with a Cerberus and a paralyzer. That was interesting for sure, and a fun ship. I started to really understand the ship RP connection a couple weeks in when I got my Raven's Talon and finally realized that guns actually are made by certian houses and groups, and not just random things made by asorted companies. After then I finally got my RP sorted out, actually made some thought out characters, using background information from the game even....It has been about two years, and it's been fun. I have come along way from my first pirate as well....a Hacker with Xenos ties...yeah that worked out well. Heck I did not even know I could pirate player transports back then. I went after NPCs Newbies and RP... - jxie93 - 03-05-2010 Roleplay has always been easy to grasp for me, I have a fairly creative and imaginative mind and all I had to do was just to pretend that I am someone else and improvise, as well as remembering important improvisions and write them down later on, of course. Newbies and RP... - AJBeast - 03-05-2010 Till early November. Then I started getting interested in smaller ships and other houses, got trashtalked to in Kusari and felt too hindered by the rules in Rheinland then left out of boredom/distaste for the community. Then I returned in early 09 and got into pure RP characters. Not that bad of a run, really. Newbies and RP... - Simo - 03-05-2010 To really understand the whole server such as, ships, systems, ZOI's, what each faction does, took a very long time and im not ashamed to admit that, although the whole RP speech came fairly easy to me as im quite imaginative, learning the different aspects took the most amoutn of time. Newbies and RP... - Alex. - 03-05-2010 I didn't even know what RP was at first, heh. Was like that for 2 weeks. Then I spent about... Well, another month or two as a noob to it all still.:P Newbies and RP... - Szerano - 03-05-2010 my noob time lasted for 5 months or so, but I was quick to grasp rp once I got the jist of it and I have expanded very rapidly. Ofc I had to get some of my noob gaols out of the way *ahem* like a battleship. But I got that settled with this: Got two oc bs's and lost the code for them. After I lost them I actually felt better losing them rather then keeping them so I can say I was an adverage noob  Newbies and RP... - mwerte - 03-06-2010 It didn't take me long to get in character, but to start grasping how all the various groups interacted took a bit of time. Also the ID/IFF combo was not really well explained in the rules at that time, so it left me a bit confused. It took a while to understand that I couldn't actually dock at Yaren with a Military ID. But I do miss those days, Sirius felt more like Sirius should feel; untamed, not the Datastorm/FL Companion guided Sirius I know now. Newbies and RP... - Fletcher - 03-06-2010 How's this for a noob story? I was called Edison.Trent, and was a trader taking cardimine to Texas and Slaves on the way back to Malta during the days of 4.84. It took me a month as an Outcast 'Trent' to realize what RP was, then I got myself into shape, joined The Order, made a dedicated trader character and got the hang of the game to a point. All in all, it depends on each player. Some are used to RP, some aren't. Before I joined this mod, I knew near nothing of how to RP at all. But I think I've matured over the years into a semi-stale cheese of an RP'er. Newbies and RP... - Jeremy Hunter - 03-06-2010 When I first started Disco, i was on for a week before Beta 4 for .85 diead, leaving me Dsico-less. Neverless, I returned and jumped stright back into the RP. I had been RP'n on Halo: Custom Edition...lol. RPG Servers there grew every day. I made civi and military... So it took a day to reintegrate back into Disco...though I reread the rules because I was so bad at RP and the rules back then I ended up getting a 7 day ban to 14 days. 7 for being Order and docking on Bush and Baltimore (honestly I still dont remember how that could happen) and then I lost it and got 7 more days. Always good to turn over a new leaf and learn from the past. |
