Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - alance - 09-18-2007 Every ship I scan has guns, can't remember the last time I saw a fighter with missiles. Are missiles that much inferior to guns? I'll admit I've not found much use for them but I'm no expert FL pilot, yet. Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - estevesbk - 09-18-2007 Well, I'm newbie also and I've already tried to use a missile in one of my ships...total failure...even when launching them on fighters that comes directly to me and at less than 100m of distance, and launching 2 missiles at the same time, they were successful on getting the enemy just about 10% of the time. Countermeasure should work when I launch a missile being at their "6", not then I am at their "12" and just some meters ahead...so I decided to don't use them!:P Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - Jwnantze - 09-18-2007 Ive used he sidewinders to moderate success on my Taiiden bomber, mounting 2 of them....but they are inefficiant compared to just learning to nail enemy fighters with a nova shot Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - onca - 09-18-2007 The basic problem with multiplayer.... any kind of lag or high ping rate will kill missile lock. As will "gazelling" (i.e. enemies zipping around suddenly). I never use missiles for this reason (my ping 450-500), I might as well fling credits at the enemy. Although of course people who have very small ping rate have much better success. I found torps far more effective, when the bogie is coming head on at me. EDIT: Just to expound, I have 80-90% hit rate with torps this way. Even with cheap, tiny Starkiller (the weakest torp) I can take out L.18 VHFs with 2-3 hits at most, and lesser ones with a single shot. Or you can use something heavier... but be careful of splash damage! And remember to punch the bogie's shields down first. Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - HellRaiser - 09-18-2007 I find missiles being weak on Discovery period. (compare to the other servers for example) besides there is always trusted Hornet to kill enemy missiles :yahoo: Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - TankTarget - 09-18-2007 The problem with missiles is for one they are near useless against non vanilla ships. But to make them useful against non vanilla, makes vanilla ships worthless. Now to solve the missile conundrum we can remove wireframes from all ships. And then give missiles x3 accuracy and x2 damage. And make them cheap! Because as it stands using missiles is sooooo expensive it makes 0 sense. Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - mohr - 09-18-2007 Yes, I like that idea! No wireframes makes all ships equal in the explosion department, yes please. The one thing from the original I miss in this mod is the missile combat, it was always fun! Anywho, I like the idea of making all ships equal, don't know how hard it would be though... Mohr Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - Gamazson - 09-18-2007 I don't know, I enjoy spamming the Paralyzers. If i can hit 2 twice they are worth their cost (1 complete shield failure) more then taht is bonus. Mind you I do tend to hit my wing mates more often then not. Eh tank? Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - ghostcat - 09-18-2007 There are people who use missiles to make quick kills. The problem with effective missile loadouts is that an enemy using CDs can make it blow itself up. Does anyone mount missiles on fighters? - Virus - 09-18-2007 I like missiles. Usually carry a Cannonball or two around with me. Vaporize those scumbags, eh? Takes practice and a decent connection. Don't bother if there's lag. Though, I can generally take people out with just my guns even if I have missiles equipped. |
