Custom Freelancer Textures - DartStriker - 05-06-2010 Okay, so I've been trying to make my own custom Freelancer Textures that look pretty similar to the ones used in game. Here are the three I made, and an old fighter I textured them on to see what it would look like. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Custom Freelancer Textures - Bobthemanofsteel - 05-06-2010 Seem a bit too dark, perhaps? But looks nice, IMHO. Custom Freelancer Textures - Treewyrm - 05-06-2010 Not bad for the start but not quite there yet. Grab yourself a library of basic surface seamless material textures (metals, plastic, rust, etc) or generate them by yourself in tools like Filter Forge, Genetica or Texture Maker. Right you've got masks there, but not the materials and colors. A little advice here from texture artist: start making textures in high resolution (at least double the resolution you are intending for output) so you can easily downscale them while retaining good quality and having better ones should there be a need in the future. Also notice the diagonal line on the second texture does not continue on the top side, i.e. it's not seamless. Same about the second line from the top on the left at the third image. Custom Freelancer Textures - Fletcher - 05-06-2010 Looks good from here. Custom Freelancer Textures - DartStriker - 05-06-2010 Thank you for the advice treewyrm. I use to have filterforge but my trial ran out, a really nice program though. I'll be sure to incorporate your suggestions in the next set of textures I make. Custom Freelancer Textures - Doom - 05-06-2010 treewyrm said it....last texture also cant be tiled and its clearly seen on textured fighter....tiling is very important in FL textures Custom Freelancer Textures - Varok - 05-06-2010 They look nice to me, but of course Im always expecting more and more, hehehe. I think it is a very good beginning. Custom Freelancer Textures - Durandal - 05-07-2010 Absolutely loving the second one, but it's not completely seamless. The others, while good starts, are not nearly gritty and elevated enough. Main thing to keep in mind when making FL textures is that they be gritty and seamless. The last one on there looks way too flat and fake, and the top one isn't dirty enough. |
