The Elite Shadow Society, often referred to by outsiders as the ESS, is its own militant force and pirate organization. However they are dependent upon the Outcasts for supplies, a base of operations, and whilst they do consider themselves independent, they are in no way self-sufficient. The Elite Shadow Society was formed by a man known only as Venom. Venom was, to put it mildly, an ambitious man. He was not content with the simple day to day life of 8:00 to 5:00, life had, grown dull, and he felt as though he was unnecessary, that everyone was unnecessary. But rather than choosing to put an end to the dull life which he lived, he wanted to cut himself a bigger piece of pie than the Average-Joe. Venom began surrounding himself with like-minded individuals. Slowly, he would build himself an army, but to do that, he would need supplies, weaponry, and the technology to completely dominate the minds of his servants. Venom, being the genius that he was, began working on a technology which would completely assimilate ones mind into a collective; their thoughts would be directly controlled by the engineer. His army would be a group of like-minded individuals, whom would only be like-minded by his control; they would believe they were fighting for something that was actually worth fighting for, rather than the ambitions of one mentally broken mad-man. Eventually, Venom arrived at a standstill in the development of the project which he dubbed SCHLARPEI (The word itself has no meaning and has been determined to be the gibberish spoken by a mad-man rather than any intelligible word). He required access to an actual technological facility, rather than the make-shift laboratory he had built within his home on Planet Manhattan. He decided that he would use the Lane Hackers as pawns in the game which he was elaborately planning; all he needed was a way to gain access to their facilities. Venom, with the money his colleagues had collected, bought what is known as the Havoc MK II Ageira Bomber, and with it, he robbed the very company which designed his newly acquired toy. Over and over again he took what he could from Ageira, and then destroyed what was left. He was eventually noticed by the Lane Hackers, and he told them that he was a previous employee of Ageira, who was laid off. The Lane Hackers eagerly accepted Venom, and his plot was underway. Within the halls of Mactan base, he completed and fine-tuned SCHLARPEI (discreetly, of course) and told the Lane Hackers that it was time for him to leave. He convinced them that he would be back, to strike at Ageira with enough force to break them, when he returned. With Schlarpei perfected, he had accomplished what he needed before he could move on to the next phase of his insane plot. Now he needed supplies for his mindless force, and weapons. He had gained the trust of the Lane Hackers, now it was time for him to turn to the Outcasts. The ruthless madman that he was, he sold off most of his pawns to the various plantations upon Malta as slaves, keeping a small amount to work on the small Cardamine Plantation he had bought with his newfound money. The remainder of his mindless minions, he set to work upon his plantation, or smuggling the Cardamine through Liberty, or perhaps even acts of petty piracy. This period in the ESS is often referred to as the Criminal Period, Venom did everything he could to build up a fortune, and hes wealth slowly grew. By the time the Criminal Period had ended, the ESS had accumulated nearly 1 billion credits, nearly all of which was spent upon, the reclamation of the previously sold slaves, and equipment for all of them. Venom had succeeded in creating his army, now he had to do something with it. Venom, now dependent upon his miniature plantation on Malta, and by default, the Outcasts needed to appease the Ministers of the Outcast Nation before he could take any serious action. His forces were deployed as a sort of reserve army that was always available when the need for reinforcements in a minor or major skirmish. Everything he did was to appease the Outcast nation, although he never truly succeeded before everything began falling apart. The Schlarpei control systems and the ESS Database were relocated to Ruiz in Omicron Beta. There, in the unstable environment which truly defines the edge worlds, Ruiz suffered a short power-outage, a minor 20 seconds with no power, which completely disabled Schlarpeis control of everyone within the ESS. An ambitious woman who was assigned to Venoms personal bodyguard took her chance, killing Venom; the ESS was left in a state of chaos. Elrainn, Venoms murderer, re-organized the ESS and, to a lesser degree re-established Schlarpeis control. However, seeing as how Schlarpei was not nearly as effective as it was prior to the event, an immediate goal had to be decided. Elrainn gathered a team of officers and advisors, excluded them from Schlarpei, and held a council where they devised a plan of action. The GMG was decided upon as a target, they were their own independent state, and thus destroying them would not invoke the wrath of any higher power. They also had a monopoly on H-Fuel which could be exploited if they were ever eliminated. The territorial structures and bases were also a benefit; the Sigmas would be theirs for the taking if they succeeded in the GMGs destruction, with several inhabitable planets which, with the proper colonization would elevate the ESS from a minor organization, to its own independent nation. Propoganda was forced down the throats of the ESS, demonizing the GMG, so that even if Schlarpei ever malfunctioned, it would still function accordingly to a degree. The ESS has since re-established itself, and it is now preparing for its complete and open war with the GMG. Again basing itself out of Ruiz, it is not nearly as powerful as it used to be, no longer having access to any of the capital class ships it used to. The Lord Protector handles all diplomatic matters and takes place in many large scale operations. The Lord Protector controls the Schlarpei Mindshare and makes the decisions in the ESS. Magistrates There are 2 Magistrates, and each one heads either the Military, or Industrial divisions of the ESS. They are the only people in the ESS not controlled by the Schlarpei Mindshare. However they are kept under close watch by the Lord Protector and the grunts of the ESS. Officers [color=#000000]Captain Captains lead a squadron or subdivision of the Military or Industrial branches of the ESS. Given access to one of the few rare and restricted Tridentes in the ESS fleet, they oversee everything on the scene. Lieutenant Lieutenants are assigned to a squadron of their choice and are given access to the restricted Code-Name Weaponry. Lieutenants are the de facto commanders in any operation if the Captain is not present. Enlisted Ranks [color=#000000]Myrmidon Meaning devoted warrior in one of the ancient Sol languages, Myrmidons are the respected members who have proven themselves, and they bear the majority of the burden. They are given their own quarters rather than living in one of the various barracks that new initiates are forced to share. Initiate Congratulations, youve made it into the ESS, now see that collar on your neck? You screw up, that contracts and prevents oxygen from entering your body, and you die. In other words, its in your best interests to not be stupid. I simply hadn't said anything sooner because I figured it wasn't my place to bring it up first, having never been a member.
